Four Peace Activists Kidnapped in Iraq 2 Canadians a Brit and an American
Edited on Tue Nov-29-05 08:24 PM by mzmolly
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Al-Jazeera broadcast video Tuesday of four Western peace activists held hostage by a previously unknown group, part of a new wave of kidnappings police fear is aimed at disrupting next month's elections.

The news station said the four were seized by the Swords of Righteousness Brigade, which claimed they were spies working under the cover of Christian peace activists. The captives_ an American, a Briton and two Canadians — were members of the Chicago-based aid group Christian Peacemaker Teams.

The footage showed Norman Kember, a retired British professor with a shock of white hair, sitting on the floor with three other men. The camera revealed the 74-year-old Kember's passport, but the other hostages were not identified.

But Christian Peacemaker Teams confirmed the others were Tom Fox, 54, of Clearbrook, Va.; James Loney, 41, of Toronto; and Harmeet Singh Sooden, 32, a Canadian electrical engineer. They had been missing since Saturday.

Such sad news. These people are their trying to end the occupation.

8. My understanding is that, they were keeping a record of human rights,...
,...abuses.

Interesting, isn't it, that human rights advocates or "real time" journalists seem a perpetual target by these particular "terrorists".

Know what I mean?

9. This smells like grade a bullshit to me in some way or another.
Its tweaking all kinds of detectors in my mind.

I think this particular case bears further watching beyond the usual.

13. the kidnapping group has not been identified..
They are being called "an unknown insugent group".. or "unidentified" or "goup unfamiliar to coalition forces"..

Why would an insurgent group take an anti-occupation group hostage?

stinky stinky

14. Check the Christian Peacemaker Teams website
http://www.cpt.org/

Their organization has seen the tape, and confirmed the identities of their teammates on it.

I'm in constant prayer for my friends in CPT all over the world, and am naturally concerned about these four, though I haven't met any of them. However, the "red hats" of CPT also know that they're unarmed and nonviolent in many of the most heavily armed and violent places on the planet, and they're committed to getting in the way of that violence and ending it through non-violent opposition.
