I had a little "discussion" with a neocon co-worker today. He was going on and on about how the media does not report on the "success of the war" like all of the schools we are building, etc.
I told him that war in Iraq is over, and has been over for over a year. We went to war because Sadam was threat (or so they said). We have eliminated the threat, Sadam is gone, his army is destroyed, and any weapons he once had are now destroyed.
He replied that we have to secure the oil fields.
I told him that was bullshit. That if Iraq wanted a civil war, whoever won the damned war and controlled the oil fields would need someone to sell that shit to, and that someone would be us. Futhermore, they would do their own policing so they could sell more oil to us.
He replied that if that was true, why were bothering to secure Iraq?
I told him because if we allowed them to sort it out, whoever won might exclude American businesses that had supported Bushco for years, and he and the Republican Party would be in deep shit because their donors would be really, really, pissed that they did not get lucrative oil contracts.
So he says, so you think this is just about a bunch of greedy oil executives with ties to the White House?
I just smiled.
A neocon thumped.
