So what if tomorrow night Bush goes on national TV and ends the war
Could it happen?

How will we react?

What will we do next?

2. AHm, not going to happen.
But if he did we would celebrate, because it might mean less would die.

5. Good and Bad.
I'd be happy that our troops wouldn't have to suffer anymore, but fearful of what this would do for the future of Iraq and its people, and our future foreign relations.

6. Let's just start with the "not dying" part and work from there.

8. I would be very happy that our troops are coming home
But pissed at Bush and the Republican's for playing games with a decision as sober as declaring and ending WAR!!

I'm not quite sure how those two emotions would mix

10. No it couldn't happen
the agenda of PNAC if for a permanent presence

Hypothetical it would be a great thing, but in reality you will watch the greatest display of double speak

In one breath he will say we will draw down after the elections, and in the next breath, he will say we need to stay the course until the job is done, and they can assume full responsibility, blah blah blah

16. 100% accurate assumption.
I think that's exactly what Mr. Shifty plans to do.

Oh, Bush is upset about how everything turned out. He's upset because his ratings are in the toilet. He's miserable that so many lives have been lost. Not for their sake, but US troops could have been used in Iran & Syria. He's damned upset that we're practically broke - have to go begging to China for more loans. But not for his country's sake.

Only that his corporate cronies were just getting started. They just barely got their grubby hands on the loot, when - poof- we're broke.

So no: we're not going anywhere. To the poor house, maybe.

11. I'd freak OUT!!!
I'd hope to God Almighty that he was being honest, for once, but I would be in a complete state of disbelief until IT ACTUALLY HAPPENED!

On second thought, I'd assume he was pulling everyone's leg.

13. You mean, like he springs a big flabbergasting surprise?
Drops a peace bomb?

I guess that at least statistically the possibility exists...on live and worldwide is the most seductive ad-lib scenario there is. For that matter he might come out and propose/reveal/admit any number of things.
I hope that he clearly has a prime-time *break* of some sorts---if he goes nuts in the TV pulpit, he's outtahere---in his own words, and there for all to know...but I expect it'll be another marionette performance of spin, code, denial, and unintended irony.

How would I react to W "ending" the war on TV?

1)I'd laugh at the naivete of the gesture: could he really think any speech---of his??---could have any such impact? That he could stop the animosity, the killing, the decline of US respectability worldwide with some sort of a sermon or revelation?

2)I'd say (to the TV, naturally) "Prove it!" and "Nobody can believe you and yours anymore!"

and

3)I'd continue to read and post here and do all of the other things I can do to promote the real, other, pre-GWB-era America.

That said...always up for a pleasant-sounding surprise. And am always on pins and needles when this idiot gets near a microphone (though it was more fun before I knew he was radio controlled.)

14. Could it happen?
Yes but it is not likely, not at all, PNAC and everything.

I would react with joy tinged with skepticism. I would be very wary of it but joyful nonetheless.

What we do next? Hold his ass to his promise and make certain they are not withdrawn to Iran or Syria.

18. We'll ask him why he started it
If he says the US is withdrawing immediately, then he's ceding Iraq to violence, war, partial or total Iranian control. It will be a far greater danger to the US than it ever was under Saddam.

At least, that's what the Dems should say and point out in such a case.
