Tony Blair denies knowing of report of Bush wanting to blow up Al Jazeera

LONDON - British Prime Minister Tony Blair on Monday denied receiving any details of a reported US proposal to bomb the Arabic news channel Al Jazeera.

The Daily Mirror newspaper reported last week that a secret British government memo said Blair had talked US President George W. Bush out of bombing the broadcaster’s Qatar headquarters last April.

The White House has dismissed the report as “outlandish”, while Blair’s office has so far refused to comment.

Blair was asked in a written question to parliament made public on Monday “what information he received on action that the United States administration proposed to take against the Al Jazeera television channel?”

In a written response, Blair gave the one-word answer ”none”.

2. Well if that's the case WHY has Blair slapped the
Official Secrets Act on these memos? If any newspaper prints these memos, if they get hold of them...the editor will go to jail.

So the way I see it, Blair's lying AGAIN...Official Secrets Act...whats he afraid of IF the memos contain zilch?

4. Blair's lying again...like his boyfriend Junior, Blair is a
Habitual liar. You know, until Junior started squatting in the WH, I liked Blair, I thought he was a pretty decent man. But once Junior got in...well, EVERYTHING that Junior has gotten hold of in his life he's DESTROYED and CORRUPTED...including PEOPLE.

Pre-Junior, Blair was actually rather progressive, now he's turned into some Right-Wing freak.

5. It just hit me
This (oh yeah let's get the memo proven) would mean that Bush is literally a terrorist (wannabe) himself. Bombing civilians because he doesn't like what they say. Murdering non-combatants for political gain. I know many make that claim about war, of course, but this is way outside the bounds of war. And I know he wanted to do it. And O'Reilly would approve. Oh irony of course. They are the thing they claim to hate. They are the terrorists.

6. No, the blivet is operating under the auspices of Gawd!
He supposedly thinks he's right, and screw the rest of the world. Whether it's religion or good ole-fashioned stubbornness, we really really really need to lose him before he destroys anymore.

7. There is an article in the Guardian tonight
in relationship to this story:
snip:

In it, the US president allegedly suggested bombing the headquarters of the Arabic TV station, al-Jazeera. Mr Blair is alleged to have warned Mr Bush against taking such action.
The former Labour defence minister, Peter Kilfoyle, has said the government should reveal what Mr Blair told Mr Bush about US military tactics in Iraq, in particular about the assault on the city of Falluja in April last year.

Referring to US bombing of civilians and the recent disclosure that US troops used white phosphorus, Mr Kilfoyle said: "I would very much like to know whether the prime minister was privy to this."

8. This is not the question they should have asked
what information he received on action that the United States administration proposed to take against the Al Jazeera television channel?”

Tony Blair is a master of 'parsing' words, way, way better than Clinton was often accused of. This question left him an opening to say 'none'.

He should have been asked 'Did George Bush ever express to you a desire to bomb Al Jazeera'?

He may lie, but if there's a memo (and I think there is or they wouldn't be going so crazy over this) that says this happened, with his credibility as bad as it is, I think the memo will be accepted over his word.

He lied and lied about WMDs and all the other nonsense they cooked up to get into this war ~ so I expect he'll lie again.

He has yet to answer the question he said he could not answer two years ago after the SOTU 16 words issue arose. He was backing up Bush's claim that 'British Intelligence had told us that Saddam H. had tried to get Uranium from Africa'. At the time, Tony B. used the war as an excuse not to reveal this supposed 'British Intelligence' back then, but promised to do so when it would no longer compromise security.

So, we now know a lot about this. We know the so-called intelligence came from Italy and that it was forged. He needs to explain why British Intelligence was fooled by something that the IAEA knew was phony almost as soon as they saw it.

He lied, imo, to back up Bush and it is infuriating that they, he in particular, lied to the world and assumed he and his friend, were so much smarter than the rest of us. He never convinced most of us, but he should be held accountable now for the lies he told.
