5. Birds still have it
and it's still spreading among birds.
They did find a mutation recently, but that mutation isn't human to human either.

They don't know that it will.

They do know someday there will be some new flu variant that could cause a pandemic and a plan to deal with it should be in existence. You can't do it at the last minute.

8. I still think the whole thing was a trial balloon to see about sneaking in
martial law--using the military, of course, in case of a pandemic.
ooops--guess they didn't count on at least some of the sheeples saying "NO"

11. Wasn't that strange
when the first time he talked about it ALL he suggested was the military enforcing quarantines and how the congress needed to give him that power.

And after he brought it up with Katrina it was WAY too creepy

But after his big talk about it I realized it wasn't just martial law, it was also special drug companies, money, secrecy and a loss of our rights.

10. birds are the natural reservoir for the influenza virus
The virus will always be there, and new strains (which causes pandemics because no one has immunity to it, unlike the yearly sub-types of established strains in the human population) will emerge every few decades.

But the hype was just that--hype. I'm glad no one has panicked yet.

Global warming will cause Greenland to melt and raise the world's seas 30 feet soon, I read it right here at DU so I know it must be true.

15. In all honesty...
...I don't think it is as bad as what they are trying to make out.

I currently have a bad dose of the flu. Naturally the first thing that went through my mind was, what if I have the bird flu? I had been around live chickens recently, and so I was in a bit of a panic.

I began reading up on it. The symptoms of bird flu are much the same as regular flu. And it is only in some cases of humans who catch it, that they end up with the more severe symptoms which lead to death.
