Will every Christmas be like this?
From now on?

Why do the born-agains dig deep every year to come up with some podunk town that won't allow a manger scene somewhere, then they hype the hell outta the story and claim Chistianity and Christmas are "under attack"?

Enough's enough fer Christ's sake!

1. until someone
drives their car through the front of a church or threatens any Christian church with firebombing, as has been done with mosques in this country, I don't think they have a right to say anything of the kind.

2. They're really on the rampage this year...
They're all up in arms about Wal-Mart asking its employees to say "Happy Holidays" rather than "Merry Christmas."

5. Every year they have these stories...
I think the RW does this on purpose.
RW places like Wal-Mart set this in policy knowing this will be controversial.
Then they say , "well the 'politically correct' crowd (code for liberals)will sue us if we don't".
It's a shell game in my estimation. A dirty little game the RW plays against the Left every year using Christmas as bait.

3. It's the "culture wars"
The wingnuts are big on symbolism and nada on substance about anything. . .everything to them is about their own version of "political correctness." Fresh from their campaign to remove Halloween from the school systems, they then wage war over demanding religious recognition of their stolen pagan holiday of Christmas. It's all nonsense but symbolic of their embracing political correctness with a fever pitch of wailing walls and weeping madonnas.

4. Yes, it's really annoying.
It would be different if I were really trying to attack Christmas, but I'm not, so they should just STFU and enjoy their damn HOLIDAY! That's all I want, to enjoy a freaking Christmas without hearing them bitch about stupid petty crap.

But really, I mostly say 'Happy Holidays' now just because it pisses them off. WTH, if they're going to accuse me of something stupid, it may as well be true. They must not have much confidence in their religion if they let the phrase 'Happy Holidays' bother them so much.

12. Me too.
I just want to tell them to stop worrying about how I live MY life, and START worrying about how they live theirs. I mean, that's what Jesus wanted and all, right? Turn your cheek, love thine enemy, pray in your closet, and all that jazz?

21. unfortunately they are immune to that argument
i just broke off a 20+yr friendship over this garbage. whenever i brought up what Jesus taught (ie, tolerance for others & living by example, & not showing off), all i got was "you liberals don't understand that it's not about YOU, it's about HIM, what God wants." suffice to say, the email exchange went downhill from there. personally, i think these crybaby christians are selfish...they want US to respect THEIR beliefs so they can live their lives as they wish, but they refuse to return the favor.

i'm glad i found du, because otherwise, i'd be in a loony bin.

9. Booo hoo hoo, they are trying to cancel
christmas. Get real, christmas isn't about religion or beliefs anymore. Its about greed and getting gifts and showing off how you can out spend the Jones. Christmas hasn't been that way since Macy's made christmas about shopping and not religion. The real christmas of today is a joke, Its really funny how the religious out there spend 1 day out of 365 being nice and actually being christens, the other 364 days, they are the greedy pricks screwing over anyone that gets in their way of getting what they want. Its a season of hype and greed not a season of peace and good will to man kind. That is just the myth that drives the greed and justifies their greed. Oh I put $1 in the Salvation Army pot so I can be a prick from this day till the next christmas.

11. I say...
"Fuck 'em!"

And, "Fuck Christmas!"

I'm never buying another "Christmas" present again. I've opted out for good. Let them have their stupid holiday. I'm am not now, nor have I ever been a "Christian" so I want nothing to do with their "Christmas" insanity. This goes for most of my extended family as well. We're done with it!

Jesus was one of the exemplary members of our species and these quackers wouldn't know Him if He came and bit them on the ass. In fact, they would have Him executed for doing such. Fuck 'em! He was born in April anyway, it was the Romans' idea to celebrate His birth at Saturnalia. Let them bitch and moan all they want. They're a bunch of idiots, and I say "Fuck 'em!"

13. FUNDRAISING!
This is the RWers vehicle, perfect for those "end of year" gifts to charities. I know, I worked in nonprofit fundraising for 30 years (and for good nonprofits). I know that if you don't amass a certain amount by the end of the calendar year, it's a tough slog the rest of the way to the end of your fiscal year.

This is an easy and somewhat cheap way to raise money. While direct mail does cost money, it is effective in getting the message to the hard core supporters and extracting that last tax deductible gift before Jan. 1. PLUS, they get news coverage to highlight their campaigns. GMA had a big piece this morning.

14. Christmas (& Christianity) have been "Under Attack" for years....
Edited on Wed Nov-30-05 08:36 AM by Bridget Burke
The loathsome Concerned Women for America ran "It's time to dump Happy Holidays" in 2003:
www.cwfa.org/articles/5040/CFI/misc/

The Washington Post explained why "Groups on Right say Christmas is under attack" in 2004:
www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A23279-2004Dec23.html

The Chalcedon Foundation (begun by the late R J Rushdoony, founder of Christian Reconstructionism) shows the evil plot behind all the "persecution"
www.chalcedon.edu/underwriters.php
An all-out assault has been launched to uproot the foundations of Christian civilization in America.

If you’re intellectually sensitive to the presuppositions underlying current events, you’ve already seen the explicit agenda of humanists to silence the Christian voice in America.

No doubt you are greatly disturbed by the efforts of secularists, pluralists, and false religious groups to remove the Judeo-Christian God "from every post and pillar.” The following is just a few of the wicked strategies imposed by such humanist organizations as the American Civil Liberties Union, Americans United for the Separation of Church and State, and other secular and false religious groups:

* The persecution of Chief Justice Roy Moore in Alabama
* The judicial attempts to remove Christian symbols, such as the nativity, from every public place
* The elimination of public prayer from every local and federal institution
* The promotion of gay marriage in Massachusetts and San Francisco
* The unhindered encroachment of Islam throughout Western nations.

www.chalcedon.edu/underwriters.php

I wish that gang would return to their "Against Pagan and Roman Catholic Holy Days (Holidays) Like Christmas and Easter" roots:
www.swrb.com/newslett/freebook/holyday.htm

So the rest of us would be free to hang lights, share food & drink with family & friends & play some fine music. Even if He wasn't born at this season, let those inclined honor the Baby Jesus; he grew up to say some fine things & is NOT to blame for some of his followers. Or celebrate the turning of the year with whatever traditions resonate. Or follow the "Bah, Humbug" tradition--but even those folks appreciate a couple of days off more than old Ebenezer.

Myself, I'll pick several options from the list. Presents are purely optional but always welcome! (Edited to add). I'm already a card-carrying supporter of the ACLU, but I'll be sure to donate to some other evil secularist group in honor of the season.

15. our local Fox news just played a bunch of voice mails about it
About eight fundies insisting it's a Christmas tree and sounding all kinds of furious about the attack on their poor wittle right to commandeer any and all holidays. Not a single pagan, atheist, or liberal Christian comment, of course.

16. It's an effective strategy, so yes. For a couple of years anyway.
But I don't know how much cachet they will get from it in the long run.

19. It is so predictable
just like the stories of black Friday. Then we'll have mental health counselors talking about depression during the holidays. Same old same old every dang year.

The thing is, "happy holidays and season's greetings" have been around for decades.

And think about it..would even the most devout Christian really want displays of the baby Jesus, the Holy Mother and the rest of the gang up in department stores? WalMart? (right in between Cost-Cutters and McDonald's)? Some things are too sacred for Courthouse lawns. I put a chreche in my house, thank you. I don't need one at Target.

they will pile it on more every year.
Until they have made this nation a theocracy they will pile on more every year.
