As per usual, lots of info on this up at the site. Tucked away in a recent House bill that passed 217 to 215 was an ammendment that would write law, forcing the sell off of millions of acres of national forest land - YOUR land. According to legal experts, the plan would sell off parks as well. We are talking the nations treasure, no different than the Washington Monument or the Lincoln memorial.
Contact your congresspeople, and then congressional leaders and tell them to strip Pombo's radical ammendment from the bill.
http://www.congress.org/..."The House has now voted to end the moratorium. Its measure, contained in its new budget bill, would direct the Interior Department to put mining lands up for sale for at least $1,000 or the market rate, whichever is greater.
In theory, the provision forbids sale of existing claims inside national parks - there are 900 of these - but the legal language is disputed. What isn't disputed is that the law would potentially let mining companies - or developers posing as mining companies - to buy millions of acres of federal land in the West.
But at what cost? Alarmed critics - which range from fishermen to hikers to environmentalists - say thousands of pieces of valuable public property could wind up in private hands.
