What is Tweety's history? How on earth did he ever get his current job...
I find him more annoying by the day! He truly disgusts me, and his rude manner of constant interuption of Democrats, and his slavish, drooling, obsequious attention to Rethugs, make it all too clear as to what his political inclinations are. He should be fired, and join the likes of Limbaugh and other RW radio hate-spewers. His voice is more irritating than Rita what's-her-name.

22. Hate to inform you Chris, but B* has NEVER exhibited "sunny"
temperment of ANY kind, and your allusion to his "nobility" only confirms my suspicions that you are with the neocons in their hatred and mistrust of Democracies. Why don't we just start calling him "Your Royal Highness?" In a speech to the U.N. B* stated "Let Freedom REIGN!" People reign in a Democracy, and freedom under B* is an oxymoron

8. I didn't know that. Didn't he start with Carter? Someone said he was
once a Democrat, like Russert, but now they are both so obviously Rethugs...Money (the easiest form of power if you are willing to sell your soul) corrupts and corrupts absolutely.

14. He was a speechwriter for Carter for four years
Here's his Wiki entry:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Matthews
"Matthews has worked for several Democratic politicians. He was a presidential speechwriter for four years during the administration of Jimmy Carter. He served as a top aide to long-time Speaker of the House of Representatives Tip O'Neill for six years. He worked in the U.S. Senate for five years on the staffs of Senators Frank Moss and Edmund Muskie before running for U. S. House of Representatives from Pennsylvania.

Despite working for Democrats, Matthews has said, "I'm more conservative than people think," and "I've voted Republican many times, (including) for George W. Bush in 2000." - October 3, 2003, Hardball <1> Most recently, he told political science students at the University of Toronto that Americans ought to try to understand terrorism: "If we stop trying to figure out the other side, we've given up. The person on the other side is not evil -- they just have a different perspective." <2>"

7. Started as a moderate Dem., but has been softened and kept
fat and happy by his corporate masters. He is now corrupted and out of touch. He is completely at their service, which means he bends over backwards to sympathize with the corporatists, using his former Tip O'Niel employer as cover. His brother is a corporate pig running for office, so I see it getting worse.

15. John McLauglin...Big Boost Being On His Show
Tweety was a beat writer/columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle and was got his first exposure on the McLaughlin Group (I'd say I started seeing him show up around '90 or so)...btw...the show was and still is sponsored by General Electric. Methinks either this show caught Jack Welch's eye or visa versa (and he had Matthews placed on that show).

Matthews plays not to his audiences, but to his bosses...General Electric and how his shows serves that corporations overall interests. He's not an overt partisan like a Rushbo, but a stealth operative who is given a role as "gate-keeper"...paving the way for the real heavy hitters to do their work.

Tweety's problem is he's let his fame and ego trip him up. He's so into the beltway he fears the loss of being on the A-List at drinkie-drinkie parties and having his calls answered above the truth or reality. Hopefully he and others who have been complicit with this regime and the decade-long smear campaign on Democrats will have their day of reckoning soon.

16. Tweety was also in the Peace Corps and
I think he used his contacts to get jobs in govt and then into journalism. He can't be all bad, one of his son's supported Howard Dean, and Tweety still is pretty nice to HD when he has him on.

18. From his bio at MSNBC
Matthews worked for 15 years as a print journalist, 13 of them as Washington Bureau Chief for The San Francisco Examiner (1987 - 2000), and two years as a national columnist for The San Francisco Chronicle, which was syndicated to 200 newspapers by United Media.

Prior to that, Matthews spent 15 years in politics and government, working in the White House for four years under President Jimmy Carter as a Presidential speechwriter and on the President’s Reorganization Project, in the U.S. Senate for five years on the staffs of Senator Frank Moss (Utah) and Senator Edmund Muskie (Maine), and as the top aide to Speaker of the House Thomas P. "Tip" O'Neill, Jr. for six years.
...
A graduate of Holy Cross College, Mr. Matthews did graduate work in economics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Matthews also worked for two years as a trade development advisor with the U.S. Peace Corps in the southern African nation of Swaziland.

Matthews was a visiting fellow at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, Institute of Politics. He holds 14 honorary Ph.D.s.

21. It always surprises me how little he talks about Carter
I think one time he got that sentimental look in his eyes and sincerity in his voice to say, "My former boss. A great man." Then he switched to talking about The Great Communicator or some other Republican.

28. Strangely, it is! After reading his history here, he has accomplished a
lot more than I gave him credit for. Anyone who worked in the Peace Corps as a youth gets my deep respect (even though when he did it, it was sort of the 'trendy' thing to do.) I guess greed, power, money and ego have led to his current state. Too bad. One more bites the dust.
