Is Bush Playing Offense Or Defense On Iraq?
http://www.presstitutes.com/presstitutes/2005/11/is_bush_playing.html

We've noted time and again the media's rote repetition of language that paints Bush as "firm" or "fighting" or "resolute" or "on the attack." This Pre$$titute-driven narrative shields Bush from appearing as the weak, deluded bumbler that he is.

Here's the Washington Post repeating the mantra yet again: "President Bush, facing increasing impatience with the war in Iraq, went on the offensive Wednesday, releasing a detailed strategy plan ahead of a speech on the war in an attempt to show the country the administration has a clear strategy for victory in Iraq.... The White House offensive comes as continued deadly violence in Iraq and the deaths of more than 2,000 U.S. troops there chip away at the president's popularity."

Simple question: how exactly is Bush "on the offensive" when he's busy defending a failed strategy?

1. I wonder what Norah O'Donnell will say about the "speech"
Or if she'll just drop down and grovel by being in the presence of Emperor Bush.

3. he's always BEING offensive....
it's obviously that politically, he's being very defensive here. make a speech after others have roundly criticized, that's defense.

militarily, we're largely in a defense mode as well. "insurgents" are attacking/sniping at us and we're trying to hold our positions. i don't hear of anything that sounds like "offense", going into "insurgent strongholds" to rout out the enemy.

the only way he's on the offensive is that he always attacks his critics. but that's more bullying than actual offense.

What choice does little bush have? Stay the course or eat his words? Obviously, he's eating crow. Democrats new to kill his happy new words of victory.

5. Bush confuses WANTING a victory for a strategy for victory.
His speeches and his backers just say that the cut and runners dont' want victory. He say he won't stop until victory. That's an aspiration, not a plan. And a slander, since I too would love to win SOMETHING out of this war, get thrown a bone. I just can't see a way it can happen, and unlike Bush, if I can't see a way to some victory, I say stop.
