Will execution of Saddam help or hurt US in Iraq and Middle East?
No doubt, many, many Iraqis would probably rejoice at his execution. However, many may not. Is there a danger it would make a martyr out of Saddam? How would it be accepted in the rest of the Middle East? Especially amongst the younger Arabs? There will be one person with a smug, shit-eating smile on his face when the execution happens. His initials are GWB.

1. hurt of course. because why should saddam have to pay and bush

it would just further clarify the inequality and injustice.

3. Although it is possible that nothing we do at this point
can further degrade world opinion.

2. As usual he will be a false Martyr
Sadam was hated by many in the Middle East, take Iran for example. But because the U.S. invaded Iraq, he will be made something he is not.

4. it is absolutely wrong
unless we're willing to have our own diplomats and ex-presidents executed.

This double standard is so deeply, incredibly, profoundly stupid.

There is a reason soldiers don't torture soldiers. It is so that our soldiers can at least have a tiny bit of faith that they likewise won't be tortured.

There is a reason for diplomatic immunity, including immunity from capital punishment. We all agree that Saddam is evil, but what if someone in some other country agrees that Murpha is evil and executes him?

We have zero moral authority in sovereign issues already, and even less with a double standard.

5. I predict that he will be acquitted. By the time his trial is over we
will have killed hundreds of thousands more than he ever did.

Or they could exile him or give him life in prison. They don't have to execute him.
