I'm a Roman Catholic Christian, and...
...just to piss off "people" like falwell, robertson & dobson, I am going to say nothing by way of a seasonal greeting other than "HAPPY HOLIDAYS"!

Those humps are about as Christian as I look like Brad Pitt. And I DON"T look like Brad Pitt! And Christianity IS NOT under attack!

BTW, DU Gays & Lesbians, I'm changing my very pro GLBT sig line until January 7. This is because 1/6 is 3 Kings Day. In Puerto Rico, ChicaAzul's native home, 3 Kings is as big or bigger than Christmas! On 1/7 I'll change it back.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL HERE ON DU!

Anywhoo,

Many here are!

We just avoid the religious flame wars. I do at least!

8. That's for the best.
I generally try to be tolerant of religion, even if it isn't tolerant of me.

Not trying to say you're a bad person or anything, but your religion. . . no, I don't want to start a flame war.

Season's Greetings.

16. Fundies do not consider Catholics Christians, oddly enough,
unless they do the whole personal Savior/Salvation thing the Fundies do.... just saying, no flame intended.

3. I'm Protestant, and I use the "happy holidays" greeting
because I feel foolish if I wish a non-christian a "Merry Christmas." Do fundies not feel this embarrassment?

My policy is this: if I know someone celebrates Christmas, I will wish them a happy one. If I know they don't, or am not sure, I use the generic greeting. It's simple courtesy and respect.

5. A Courtesy and Respect...
...that fundies don't believe they have to feel.

This morning, during GMA's daily administration water carrying, don wildmon said "So what? This is a mostly Christian nation".

I usually do what you do. This year though, i WANT to piss fundies off!

I personally don't see the big deal about this. It's just repubs trying to bait us into saying something stupid.

4. The Three Wise Men shopped at Wal*Mart ... didncha know?
:eyes: It's not about religious inclusion; it's about religious exclusion and commercial profiteering.

I have no problem with any store that wants to say "Merry Christmas" on December 25th! Do Falwell, Robertson, and Dobson want them to stay open and say that? Fine, then. (Insane bastards.)

6. We're somewhat alike. I'm an atheist, & I wish one & all Merry Christmas!
Of course, I don't consider Christmas particularly Christian, what with the pagan tree, mistletoe, feasting, and revelry. People get confused, because of the name. I don't know why. A name is just a name. Who gets bothered by Wednesday, just because the name derives from Wodin?

17. Actually, you may be suprised to learn that
Jesus's Birthday isn't December 25 but Chuck Norris once sent him a birthday card for that day, Jesus was too scared to tell Chuck the truth. Thats why we celebrate Christmas.

...but I remember when I was in 5th grade we had a religion test. One of the questions was "What is the most sacred day on the Christian Calandar?"

I was the only one in the class that got it right. I was NOT one of the fair haired children. I think that the nun was as pissed off that I was the one who got it right as she was at the number who got it wrong!

18. Unfortunately, most of the fundies I know aren't able to think for
themselves and have to rely on their leaders to tell them how they are supposed to feel and react to the situations that most of us take in stride and move along. This does not apply to all Christians or all religions, but there is that group that will follow anything that their supposed leaders say with an almost cult-like devotion.

31. Like Wishing a Norwegian to have a "Happy Bastille Day"
Wishing Merry Christmas to someone who doesn't celebrate Christmas is like wishing a Norwegian, "Happy Bastille Day".

What is the good of that?!

So the Christmastophiles need to give it a rest.

I'm a Lutheran who uses Happy Holidays (or the more generic "Peace") when I don't know whether or not the greetee celebrates Christmas or not.

Most righties and fundies won't debate me. The righties because I don't fall for any of their "You have to admit that..." bullshit, the fundies because this liberal Democrat Catholic knows the Bible better than they do!
