Pope says no gay's in the priesthood, except the ones they
already have. If sex is not allowed, is the Pope admitting that being gay is more that just wanting to boink the guy next to you, and that maybe, just maybe, its about something more? That maybe all of those people who have been "turned straight" are all still really gay at heart? Just curious as to what the rest of DU thinks.

1. I think it's really stupid.
What difference does it make who you are attracted to if you make a vow of celibacy...and KEEP it? No sex is no sex, no matter who you want to boink.

4. Unless of course you want to rape young boys...that's okay with the Church
The hypocrisy of disallowing gays in the priesthood because of fears of sexual abuse is astounding!

When will society accept that sexual orientation has no connecting to sexual deviancy? (Maybe society has, this may just be the Catholic Church's problem).

The Catholic Church is just trying to keep that crap alive so they can continue to discriminate against gays. Does anybody think the Church refused entrance into seminary to any heterosexual males who had sex with women before being called to the priesthood?

I agree with your post, celibacy is celibacy no matter what your sexual orientation is.

5. One thing you are forgetting
The majority of molesters of young boys are males who are heterosexual in their adult sexual dealings and are more likely to be white than otherwise.

3. Doesn't the banishment of gays kinda deflate the righties' arguments
about how the Catholic sex abuse cases are not about pedophilia but homosexuality, and that the left is only outraged because it's the Catholic church buggering the little boys (teens, they argue - ignoring the pre-teens and girls who have presented cases) instead of Barney Frank?
