maybe I'm wrong, but I find Hillary's position on Iraqi hollow.
Here's my response to the email Hillary (via Ann Lewis) sent last night.
I would like to point out my concerns with Hillary’s positions. I think that these concerns are shared by a number of others.
The overall tone of all of this is political. Hillary is trying to justify her mistake in voting for the President’s authority to use force. I’m glad that she takes responsibility for her vote (not many people in Washington are taking responsibility for their actions these days). One concern is the patronizing tone of standing on previous statements about this war. I really could care less what Mrs. Clinton said in 2003. The reiteration of her criticisms is lost on me. It seems everyone in Washington is avoiding the truth. She proposes that if the elections go well we will be able to start bringing some troops home. It seems as if she buys into the idea that “as they stand up, we’ll stand down”. I’m only an American of average intelligence, but I do recognize the possibility or likelihood that Iraqis may never be able to fully “stand up”. Do you understand that US casualties are constantly going up? Do you see that this is with the help of the newly trained Iraqis which are supposedly increasing daily? My point is that with every passing day more trained Iraqis are fighting with US troops, but we are less successful. Terrorism flourishes with war. The more aggression, the more terrorist recruiting goes up. It is truly a no win situation. It is repulsive to listen to this President say until we “win, defeating the terrorists”. We will never defeat terrorism, ever! Our best hope is to protect ourselves from it, which we have put off doing to fight this misguided war. Do you believe the number of terrorists has gone up or down since the Iraq occupation? We must protect ourselves & many Americans such as myself hold all politicians accountable as long as they follow the disingenuous philosophy that the US military or at some point in the future the Iraqi forces can defeat terrorism. Terrorism is here to stay. I wish that you folks in Washington would recognize this & make some effort to protect this country as opposed to playing political tennis to defend why we are in this dead end position in the first place. Please ask Senator Clinton to forget about what she said two years ago and ask her to come up with something proactive to make the future somehow better for this country.
Thank you for your consideration.
