I feel so conflicted about this headline -- Dems will win Senate in 2006
I absolutely love Howard Dean, and his confidence of his convictions.

But there's so much wrong with our election system.

I suppose I don't want to set myself up for yet another anguished let down:

Dems will win House and Senate in 2006
By Howard Dean

2005 has been a good year for Democrats. The Democratic National Committee (DNC) has trained and hired local organizers on the ground in 49 states. These organizers are critical to our victories in 2006 and beyond.

We’ve shattered the 2001 post-presidential-year fundraising record, despite not being able to collect soft money. Through our grassroots Democracy Bonds program, we’ve doubled the number of monthly givers to the DNC.

Our leaders in the House and Senate stuck together on issues such as fiscal responsibility and Social Security, and they continue to pressure the administration for the truth about manipulating prewar intelligence, sending a strong message that Democrats will fight for what is right.

And for the first time in recent memory, the DNC, the Democratic House and Senate leadership and Democratic mayors and governors are sitting at the same table to create policies and strategies for restoring honest government and fiscal responsibility to America.

1. Indeed, a leader must be upbeat
but one shouldn't count one's chicks before they die bold.

that means they are working on it as an issue.

Exactly what MacAuliffe should have done after 2002, imo.

I think Dean's approach here is very positive.

4. We have to work hard
Hard work will prevail over any fraud the Republicans might pull. It's up to those of us in swing states to get out and knock on doors and tell people the truth.

6. Here Is The Problem As I See It
While the nation is in agreement that we would all be better served by a Democratic Congress elections still take place on the district level.

We in West Virginia are a fine example of how this works. We have one Republican Representative in the House. The woman is the daughter of one of our more corrupt Governors (one who did time by the way). Despise her as I might I still can't be part of voting her out of office and neither can any of the rest of the overwhelming majority of Americans who would like to see her and all like her swept out of office. All she has to do is hold onto one relatively poor district in West Virginia. Its not at all hard for an incumbent to do.

I'll bet we see very little change in the makeup of the House. Now the Senate, that's one worthy of discussion.

7. The House won't change to much
the way to get back the house is by uncovering the corruption one indictment at a time. It is too hard to get incumbents out of office en-mass, but if you can nationally embarrass a House Repub and air all his dirty laundry for the entire country to see you can destroy his career then.

9. I think it is brilliant
How many repubs do you think will want to run if they think they are going to lose? It certainly won't be the cream of the crop. Now, if the dems just will put up good candidates, the prediction will come true.
