They CAN ban Abortion
They're already setting themselves up for the next reactionary fight.

After abortion, they're going to dismantle Equal Rights for GLBT people. They're probably going to say they'll repeal Lawrence V. Texas.

Can't you tell that this will probably happen?

1. Hey, let them make enough people angry at them - they can live with
the consequences...

2. I agree
I think it's wrong to assume that winning this fight will make them lose their base - it will strengthen their self-righteousness if anything.

3. They can outlaw it, but abortion won't go away.
It's always been practiced.

They will just make the women who are caught criminals.

4. I know that
But some people think that if RW'ers ban abortion then they'll lose their base.

They have some more ammo left.

5. I'm not so sure.
R v W allows for the state to ban abortion in the last tri-mester with the provision for protecting the life of the mother. NONE of the late term abortion laws proposed had that provision in them. The SCOTUS has voided every one on that basis.

The Right can't afford to lose abortion as an issue. It gets the vote out and cranks up the base.

6. I don't think they'll
ever ban abortion. If they did that, they'd lose their Democrats-are-babykillers! bogeyman. The Republican leadership wants the abortion issue to remain hot.

10. The legality of abortion doesn't affect the talking point much
It just changes from "Democrats are babykillers" to "Democrats want to be babykillers," as their focus shifts from overturning RvW to outlawing abortions at the state level, enforcing those laws, and preventing decriminalization at some later date.

7. I wouldn't put anything past them
I figure first is abortion, then gay rights, then minority rights, then women's rights to vote, own property, earn the same wage as men, etc, etc.

8. They might try to make it so difficult to get an abortion that it
may as well be banned, but if they were to actually ban it altogether, they would lose a very important talking point. The same goes for the same sex marriage amendment to the Constitution. After making that a big part of his campaign, Bush said shortly after the election that he didn't think they would be able to do anything about it at this time and just dropped it.

9. If you are talking about the Supreme Court, they will not ban abortion.
However, they probably will overturn Roe v. Wade which will let states ban abortion.

11. to take their lead
to take their lead from gun control "if you outlaw abortion, only outlaws will get abortions".... yah i admit after typing it down it dosnt make as much sense.

but as i said here before, if abortion is outlawed, we will have women getting "back ally abortions" or worse, looking it up themselfs and reaching for a coat hanger. people who think that an individuals life starts before they are born, or at least half way "cooked" should seal the deal and call every woman and man a murderer, every month a woman, normaly, kills a baby and men under certain conditions kill thousands... hell even if a baby is conceved theres still a ton of "potental humans" which have died.

i think im rambleing now so ill just stop.
