LOL! Freepers Spar On Stoooopid "holiday/Christmas Controversy"
Edited on Wed Nov-30-05 03:57 PM by K8-EEE
Jesus, even a lot of the FREEPERS think this "issue" is just plain stupid. I don't know who they are manufacturing this "attack on Christmas" story for, but if it doesn't work on at least 75% of the Freeptards, it's a loser for them. Another Freeper wedge issue? Yeah, bring it on!

Oh, puhleeese. You're comment is an example of over-the-top, hyper demagoguery we see far too often on FR these days.

"Holiday" is a perfectly legitimate term for the season and always has been. When it is used specifically as a substitute for Christmas, as in Holiday Tree vs. Christmas Tree, then it is stupid and destructive. However, when it is used in its traditional way to describe the season between Thanksgiving and New Year, then it is perfectly appropriate.

But that's not how it is used. It's used as a PC substitute for "Christmas." Nobody says "Happy Holidays" after December 25 -- even though other "holidays" like Hanukka and "Kwanza" often are after Dec. 25 (as they will be this year.) "Holidays" is being foisted on us by liberals who want to censor the word Christmas out of our vocabulary.

I guess they missed the other 7 times they used the word 'Christmas' in this release.

That's for sure. I am getting sick of it.

I have said "Happy Holidays" along with "Merry Christmas" my whole life. I like to say "Happy Holidays" once in awhile, especially because the season encompasses Thanksgiving and New Years as well.

I can't believe 91% of FR believes "Happy Holidays" should NEVER be used. I agree that the word "Christmas" is falling out of fashion in commerical circles and should be restored but "Happy Holiday" never used? Give me a break!

4. Time was when the devout Christians deplored the
constant hyping of Christmas. They said it led to commercialization of something that should be sacred and low-key.

Nowadays so-called devout Christians insist that "Christmas" be all-pervasive, right down to threatening to boycott stores which don't hype "the Christmas season" enough.

It is not a coincidence that this change has taken place simultaneously with the change of the American electorate from freedom-loving, peaceful people to Big Business-worshipping republican-identified serfs who will vote against their own interests just to lift up the Big Business which they worship and adore.

19. some people love to feel persecuted
Christians out number all other religions in this country and yet there is a small portion of Christians that constantly complain about being persecuted and it's getting old.

Bibles aren't in schools! We're being persecuted! Damn Athiest state getting in the way of converting Jewish and Muslim kids!

Gay people want rights! They're persecuting us! Let's discriminate against them more than we have been over the last few centuries...really show 'em how the persecution thing is suppose to work.

Women have the right to control their own bodies! We're being persecuted! Quick...let's burn them! Or shoot them! Or bomb them! Whatever works...persecuted Christians aren't all that picky.

A husband wants to follow the wishes of his brain dead wife by letting her die with dignity? Well, break out the Jesus on a trailer hitch because we're being persecuted!

People have the audacity to NOT say the word Christmas in every other sentence or in every single greeting used between November 25th and December 26th each year! We're being persecuted! If O'Reilly, the biggest Christian loofah lovin' sexual harasser says it's true, then we must believe! Because Jesus would want us to believe in people like O'Reilly, right? :eyes:

The only Jews against Christmas are the atheist kind that never go to Temple and think Judaism is about 'social justice'. Think: Al Franken, Nadine Strossen, Alan Derschowitz, Chuck Schumer, etc. Real Jews who actually believe in God aren't threatened at all by Christians and they know that it hasn't been Christians persecuting Jews for the past 1000 years - its been atheist socialists.
Just don't forgot to wish us Happy Hanukkah next week and occassionally mention us at conventions so we know we aren't completely forgotten or taken for granted in the party.

it's about hating muslims, didn't you get the memo?

my only point here is to ask who was it who marched with Dr. King, and suffered the brunt of the violence of the anti-civil rights assholes? in almost any picture of Dr. King marching you find a rabbi. the people who took the buses to the South to register african-american voters in the Freedom Summer were way overrepresentative of Jews. Anyone seen Mississippi Burning? Andrew Goodman and Mickey Schwermer? (James Chaney, of course was killed as well)

Frankly, I can't imagine why Jews, of all people, would have a vested interest in social justice. I can't think of a single reason.
