Sen. Dayton (D-Minn) rips Bush's Iraq speech: no more "pep talks"
fresh off the mojo wire:

Dayton (D-Minn) rips Bush speech:

"The Senate's bipartisan Resolution requiring a detailed progress report on the War in Iraq produced some results in the President's address. He defined victory as "when the terrorists and Saddamists can no longer threaten Iraq's democracy, when the Iraqi security forces can provide for the safety of their own citizens, and when Iraq is not a safe haven for terrorists to plot new attacks on our nation."
However, he still refuses to be accountable for any timetable to achieve that victory, or to explain why so little progress toward it has been made in the two and half years since Saddam Hussein's overthrow."

"The President again defined Iraq as "the central front in war against humanity," without acknowledging that his war created that condition. His actions have weakened, not strengthened, our country's security, and the President refuses to admit his mistakes or his policies' failures."

"The American people and Congress don't need pep talks; they deserve "reality reports": What must be done to secure victory in Iraq, and how long it will take to achieve it. The goal is to win and leave. It should have happened already."

Unfortunately, he's not running for re-election...

1. Most of those senators who are running for re-election are afraid to say
things like that. Unfortunately.

2. Man. I've always liked that guy. I wish he would run again.
What a loss for our party. :( Who's going to run for his seat? Is it someone who can win?

3. Yes, there are several very good Dems lining up to run
for that seat: Patty Wetterling, a missing children's advocate; Amy Klobuchar, a county prosecutor, and Ford Bell. Any of them would be very good. The opponent will be Mark Kennedy, who is somewhere to the right of Darth Vader and needs to be soundly defeated.

4. "The goal is to win and leave." -- Nope, that was NEVER bushco's goal...
NOT leaving is the goal. And as long as this criminal cabal remains in power, "not-leaving" will remain their fundamental operating principle.

We ought to be acknowledging loudly and repeatedly one of the great successes of the true plan; the "Salvador Option". The Shiite militia death squads -- trained by the very same guy who trained the Central American death squads to combat "communism" for Reagan -- are obviously up and running (amok) and proving to be highly productive, body count-wise.

As a fellow Minnesotan, I am sorry to see Dayton not run again, but I ultimately agree with his judgement on this. If nothing else, not running again gives him more freedom to speak out as he has here. On balance, I'd say it's a good trade-off. We've got Amy Klobuchar to elect now -- not to mention, Becky Lourey for governor -- I, for one, am excited about the possibilities...

some things bear repeating.

the president can repeat time and again the war on terror is in iraq -- and yes NOW that he's given people practise fighting -- bush has created invaluable troops with experience fighting the u.s.

please note -- they aren't all suicide bombers -- those roadside bombs are pretty effective, huh?

there are so many holes in the logic that says stay -- it's more frustrating that people can't seem to see it.

especially those people getting our troops killed.
