Defense Contractor bilks company and soldiers -shoddy bulletproof vests!
Edited on Thu Dec-01-05 12:38 PM by BamaBecky
The following two posts are not getting the attention they deserve

the first post

second post

**Defense contractor David H. Brooks - his company -- DHB Industries -- make a lot of the bulletproof vests that our fighting men and women over in Iraq and Afghanistan have been wearing.

**experts had been warning that the vests didn't stop 9 mm bullets. Earlier this year,

the Marines finally recalled some 5,277 of the DHB vests!

**DHB investors are now suing the company after

Brooks cashed in a whopping $186 million of his stock just days before it tanked.

**This weekend, Brooks spent a reported $10 million of his war profits...on a bar mitzvah.

**David H. Brooks>>> Before the World Trade Center and the Pentagon were attacked, before the White House started selling its invasion of Iraq, his annual salary (in 2001) was $525,000. Last year, his pay, not including his stock deals was,

$70 million.

For bulletproof vests that aren't always bulletproof.

Talk about obscene profits.

This is a moral outrage. Everybody in America deserves to hear this story! link can be found here http://www.pnionline.com/dnblog/attytood/archives/002527.html The Philadelphia News online

1. Not to mention

History will forever record Elizabeth Brooks' bat mitzvah as "Mitzvahpalooza."

For his daughter's coming-of-age celebration last weekend, multimillionaire Long Island defense contractor David H. Brooks booked two floors of the Rainbow Room, hauled in concert-ready equipment, built a stage, installed special carpeting, outfitted the space with Jumbotrons and arranged command performances by everyone from 50 Cent to Tom Petty to Aerosmith.

I hear it was garish display of rock 'n' roll idol worship for which the famously irascible CEO of DHB Industries, a Westbury-based manufacturer of bulletproof vests, sent his company jet to retrieve Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry from their Saturday gig in Pittsburgh.

I'm also told that in honor of Aerosmith (and the $2 million fee I hear he paid for their appearance), the 50-year-old Brooks changed from a black-leather, metal-studded suit - accessorized with biker-chic necklace chains and diamonds from Chrome Hearts jewelers - into a hot-pink suede version of the same lovely outfit.

The party cost an estimated $10 million, including the price of corporate jets to ferry the performers to and from. Also on the bill were The Eagles' Don Henley and Joe Walsh performing with Fleetwood Mac's Stevie Nicks; DJ AM (Nicole Richie's fiance); rap diva Ciara and, sadly perhaps (except that he received an estimated $250,000 for the job), Kenny G blowing on his soprano sax as more than 300 guests strolled and chatted into their pre-dinner cocktails.

22. Those things are never about the kids
Just as they weren't with the whacked-out runaway bride who has going to have like 15 bridesmaids. It's about making sure that all the right people are invited, and that you don't leave out the folks from the Junior League, or business associates, and that your standing in your social and economic and cultural circles remains intact.

Unless, of course, you've raised your child to be that fucking shallow.

12. This is not the only company to sell defective vests
Remember -- Second Chance Body Armor Inc.

Justice May Sue for Bush's Defective Bulletproof Vests
NewsMax.com Wires
Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2005

"Prosecutors have gathered documents showing that Second Chance was alerted as early as 1998 by the Japanese material maker, Toyobo Co., that there were problems with Zylon maintaining its protective properties under certain conditions."

"By 2001, Second Chance's research chief, Aaron Westrick, was pleading unsuccessfully with his company's president to replace the vests after his own tests showed them degrading rapidly, the memos show."

'Greed Prevailed'

"Greed prevailed over the safety of police, soldiers and even the president of the United States," Kohn said. "The officials who personally profited from selling the defective vests to law enforcement must be held accountable to the fullest extent of the criminal code."

39. How republicans "support" the troops.
1. Halliburton wins no bid contracts to furnish the troops food, shelter and fuel.

Halliburton brings food to the troops that the date has been expired on for over a year and the food is rotten. The soldiers are living in tents set up in mud puddles. The fuel has water in it and costs the taxpayer triple what it should cost.

2. This joker gets a contract worth millions to provide body armor that works.

The body armor is not even in the country for months after the troops get there and when the armor gets there it's worthless.

3. The DoD comes up missing over 8 billion dollars of the taxpayer's money in Iraq.

The DOD can't provide armor for the vehicles sent into combat and then charges wounded soldiers for their meals in military hospitals.

4. The CiC and the DoD lie to start a war in Iraq.

And they are ashamed to let the coffins come back to the US in the daylight, while the soldiers are forced to spend two or three tours of duty in Iraq. One tour of duty was what the GIs did in Vietnam.

5. The Geneva Conventions is deemed quaint and the pows are tortured at Abu Ghraib and Gitmo and who know where else.

American soldiers start being beheaded in Iraq when taken prisoner, after the story of the pow torture becomes public knowledge. Congress then passes a law against using torture on POWs and the administration vetoes it.

*******************************

You can probably find lots of other ways that the GOP leadership has failed to support the troops, but yet the GOP wants to point the finger at democrats and claim they don't support the troops. Lying, cheating and stealing from the troops, is far from supporting them and the troops damned well know it by now! 65% of the people in the US know the truth now too!

Bush CAN'T FIX that, no matter how much more of the taxpayer's money he wastes flying all over the country trying to save his sorry, cowardly, ass! Ever dollar Bush wastes is a dollar less that America is able to use, in support of our troops in combat!

must investigate this outrage. We need to media blast this. This war profiteer may well rue the day that he spent $10 million on a kid's party. The focus is on him now as US troops die because of faulty or non-existant vests.
I'm forwarding the Philly Daily News article to everyone from Hillary to Keith Olberman.
Please consider doing the same. If this gets traction, one more crooked war profiteer may be run out of his disgraceful government contracts.

41. Mentioned This
I mentioned this in another post. I was not aware that this post was up. Thank you for posting about this.

In addition, to this Marine Corps Times had a front page story about the fact that 19,000 body armor kits are being recalled due to defects. You are right about this. It is wrong that this is happening and every American should hear about this. Also the Democrats need to call the Republican out on this. Hear is the chance for the Democrats to change the definitation of the phrase Support the Troops. How can you say you support the troops when you allow them to go without body armor for two years? How can you say you support the troops when you sell the out to military contractors in order to fill your pockets with cash. Democrats should stand up and demand that these companies get body armor to the troops in a proper time frame.

Get him in all ways. The SEC shoul go after him for insider trading and the government and the people should go after him for producing and giving faulty products to the military. 43. just another day in the life of a robber baron
during the Spanish-American War, more US soldiers died from food poisoning (tainted beef) and faulty guns, than by the Spanish. I believe the company, Armour meats, was the supplier and a hearing was held that showed they knowingly sold tainted beef to the US government. The company got a hand slap!!! It's nothing but robber baron mentality-anything for profit and they could give a damn about human lives!!! Well, it's been over one hundred years, and they're back--thanks to our corruptible administration!

I think it was reported that either Halliburton or its subsidary, KBR, knowingly gave bad food to the military. I heard that the food was expired and I think in some cases it had gunshots through it. I am sure I heard that they had given bad food to the soldiers.
