Why are aren't more people asking about the REAL reasons for the war?
It seems a lot has been said about Bush lying us into this war...but the conversation has fallen short in many instances. Following the idea that this war was based on lies leads to the next logical question: "What were the REAL reasons?" I think we all can agree that OIL is up there on the list, as well as world domination as per the PNAC...but why doesn't this get any attention in Congress???

1. too busy covering their backsides
A lot of conmen and women (my term for those in Congress)don't want to be told that those of us who marched before the war with signs that said "No Blood for Oil" were right.

BTW, welcome to DU! :hi:

2. Money better spent
If we spent the war money on developing alternative energy sources, our country would be more secure and more sustainable.

3. Alternative energy should be our top priority
I think that the best way to get out of the Middle Eastern quagmire is to become energy independent.

5. Exactly!
So - why then, aren't the Dem using that as their platform? If they wanted, they could paint the Republicans as the authors of 9/11 and the instigators of an oil grab disguised as the war on terror. The Dems coudl clearly differentiate themselves by offering a true plan for energy independence and sustainability.

6. What I've always believed it has been about:
That this war in Iraq is a whole bunch of things and held together by one thing - Bush's concept of religion.

I sincerely believe that Bush had a religious transformation in his life and has moved from a normal Christan to a radical fundamentalist and at his core, believes this is the start of one of the final showdowns between Christianity and Islam.

I think that other issues were the fuel to help drive Bush's religious dreams and goals. Also, that his people believed that a war with Iraq would be a cakewalk and that democracy would possibly take hold in the Middle East and if so, it would be a side benefit of Bush's war of religions.

Oil also goes with this. It is just a side benefit. Then there is also Bush's machismo, proved by his statement of "Remember, this guy tried to kill my Dad" statement.

But I don't think that the core reason was oil or capitalism, but instead a battle of religion in Bush's mind. And keep in mind, Bush is not seeing this in terms of one, five, ten or twenty years, but instead of fifty, a hundred or thousand years. (I bet if pressed, Bush is a huge fan of the "Left Behind" series.)

7. Well, why aren't 'people' ('reporters') reading the PNAC documents?
Its all there, sign sealed, and delivered.

8. Did you see the personal attacks when we questioned the WMD intelligence?
The oil motive is a lot more nebulous. We´ve already heard their disingenuous arguments and un-American attacks when confronted with concrete proof.

9. Vietnam? Oh, Iraq. Let me know what you find out about Vietnam
...as if the "official" reasons were why we were really THERE as well...
