Excuse me fellow DUers for posting this here, but I'm unsure who to ask about this.
Hey Mods: Please UNLOCK the nicknames threads!!!!
In the research forum there are a couple of "nicknames" threads where I and some other DUers have been collecting various nicknames from the DU board for various media-types and politicians. Today I went to add in a nickname I just came across for John Stossel ("second rate Geraldo") and discovered that all the nickname threads are locked, with a note added to the effect that these were locked because they were just practice threads.
Obviously these aren't just practice threads. In the research forum there are ACTUAL practice threads already created. In fact, these were the most frequently updated "research" topics in the whole forum by the widest variety of DU posters. There's other "research" topics that aren't exactly "research" either, and there's also several "research" topics that have little to no activity.
The explanation for the establishment of the research forum states:
"Elad just finished programming a cool new feature for DU. We call it the Research Forum. It's kinda like a wiki, and ultimately it's going to take the place of Demopedia, which we feel has been underutilized for a number of reasons...
The idea is to provide a collaborative space where DU members can work together to collect information and put it into a form that will be of value to our members."
Hello????? Clearly somebody in authority here decided that collecting nicknames isn't "of value to our members." Well, I beg to differ. Not only are they hysterically funny lists, but it's an interesting way to gauge the currents of which public figures are in/out of favor, etc.
I've been having a blast watching for nicknames and then adding them onto these lists. For this DUer doing this is a valuable activity for me. Right now I'm jobless, depressed, and going broke in a BIG WAY, and I am so disgusted with our public figures I want to spit and vomit and cry--all at the same time.
What's keeps my spirits up, and keeps me from just giving up is having something interesting, funny and community-oriented to do, like adding to these lists. Up until you locked these threads, that is.
I really, really hope that you will reconsider your decision here.
