Rupert Murdoch's War on Christmas
News Corporation employee Bill O'Reilly: "You don't stop saying Merry Christmas because somebody's offended. That's fascism. It's not a majority rule; it is what's right and wrong."

News Corporation employee John Gibson: "Yes, Virginia, there is a war on Christmas. It’s the secularization of America’s favorite holiday and the ever-stronger push toward a neutered "holiday" season so that non-Christians won’t be even the slightest bit offended."

11. Thanks....
Earlier this week, one DUer put up a screenshot from the Fox News online store, where according to the accompanying description one could actually buy a Bill O'Reilly "holiday ornament" for one's "holiday tree"....

Still waiting for the Falafel King to register his outrage over that....

12. The war on happy holidays....
Even for Faux Noise, this is gloriously dimwitted. Did you see O'Reilly actually attacked Bloomberg for saying "Happy Holidays?"

6. Merry Christmas Ho! Ho! Ho!
I most always said that in good cheer and a smile. Ho! Ho! Ho!

In light of the latest foolish debate I will now just say "Bah Humbug."

These guys will say any stupid thing, assume any stupid position to make a buck. Merry Christmas indeed.

In my younger years I associated Christmas with the Catholic Church. 'Christ-Mass'. How dumb could that be?

And so on.

14. Did you see Wolcott the other day?
"Scenes from the War on Christmas
Posted by James Wolcott

Today this nice saleslady handed me the blue Tiffany box she had tied with a ribbon just so and, with a twinkle in her smile, wished me a Merry Christmas. So I socked her. "

20. My world is very small MrBenchley
and self centered. If things are not about ME I seldom pay attention anymore. Ho! Ho! Ho!

I do not know James Wolcott. But I understand his sentiment in the quoted incident.

I wrote a short story once. 'My World Grows Smaller and Smaller' I am living there now.

Monk: These people do not understand the true meaning of Christmas!
Natalie: Which is?
Monk: Leaving me alone!

Do these people spew their idiotic opinions without even the slightest thought? ...or are they trying to start civil unrest by provoking people? We know who the Nazi's are Mr. O'Anus.

19. the "war" on Christmas has nothing to do with a greeting
but everything to do with the materialisation of the holiday. Christmas as I was taught was a time for giving, and not of things but of ourselves, to remember Christ's teachings and to try our best to act upon them. If I were still a Christian, I would have a creche in my house, but no tree (never had a tree, come to think of it) and no Santa myth, and definately not a lot of junky "gifts" or the desire to "outdo" someone else when it comes to giving presents.

Of course Fox doesn't want to hear that the meaning of Christmas isn't spend, spend, spend, but rather helping one another, giving to the poor, etc, etc.

25. Actually I think the war on Xmas has nothing to do with anything
but nonsense...

Worth noting that the colonists did not celebrate Xmas (Xmas celebrations were actually forbidden in Puritan New England)...and that the holiday was actually dying out until Charles Dickens published his Chrstmas Carol in 1843...

26. you are correct
Massachusetts didn't make the day a holiday until the 1850s. But I guess that is my point-what these people are talking about really isn't a Christian holiday, but rather a bow to the god of materialsim.

24. O'Reilly is ALWAYS 150% right and we're all traitors and idiots...
The guy's colossal ego is amazing. H-I-S personal opinions are 150% right: God-given, immutable and divinely carved in stone like the Ten Commandments. Anyone else who doesn't share his exact views is a traitor, idiot or worse. The smug arrogance of it all is dizzying, depressing & disgusting. To think that in 50 years American TV News has gone from Edward R. Murrow to Bill O'Reilly. It's like the theory of evolution in reverse --- we're going back to apes (ooops I forgot, we're not supposed to mention evolution anymore, only "intelligent design".)
