http://www.presstitutes.com/presstitutes/2005/12/democrats_disar.htmlTim Grieve at Salon's War Room nails the new media meme: "It was going to happen sooner or later. The Washington press corps, unable to come up with new ways to say that George W. Bush is flailing on Iraq, has finally turned its sights on the Democrats. CNN spent much of the day Thursday tracking the Democrats' disarray on Iraq, and the Washington Post chimes in today: "Democratic Lawmakers Splinter on Iraq," the headline says."
In addition to the media outlets Grieve mentions, yesterday's 'Connected' show on MSNBC led with "Democrats in Disarray." What Grieve is alluding to is Pre$$titutes' long-standing imperative NEVER to compliment Democrats, to ALWAYS denigrate them, belittle them, mock them, treat them like clowns. It's one of the iron-clad principles of Pre$$titution: Bush may be down, but Democrats are worse.
That's why we rail against Democrats when they fail to recognize and debunk anti-Democratic memes, and why we go after Jon Stewart for perpetuating these GOP-generated talking points.
We've said it before: if the press had simply stayed neutral in the Kerry/Bush battle, Kerry would have won handily. Instead, we were treated to a year-long spectacle of rank Pre$$titution, with the fiction of "Bush the leader" and "Kerry the muddled Democrat" rammed down our collective throats.
What the press conveniently overlooks in their zeal to take down Democrats is that there is nothing inherently wrong with members of a political party holding different views on a matter as serious as war. At least it shows that some soul-searching and thought has gone into the various positions, whereas the near lockstep hawkishness of Republicans betrays a crass political motivation for their stance on Iraq.
UPDATE: Sparkly, a poster at Democratic Underground, catches Pre$$titute Liz Sidoti pushing the same storyline, and deconstructs her piece as follows:
First, the title:
Sidoti: "Democrats Lack Unified Position on Iraq"
Rewrite: "Democrats Offer a Range of Proposals on Iraq."
Sidoti: "The only position Democrats seem to share is that Bush's current strategy is flawed."
Rewrite: "Democrats share the position that Bush has no workable strategy."
Sidoti: "But Democrats also don't have one standard-bearer to look to for direction, unlike the Republicans, who have the president."
Rewrite: "Democrats have outspoken leadership in the House, the Senate, and among military veterans, unlike the Republicans, who feel pressure to line up behind an unpopular president."
Etc...
