repug plan: take away christianity, the flag, america, family and now
christmas and let them be repugs. liberals dont like them. this is much bigger than whether the atheist or liberal is tired of the commercialism in christmas. repug started this last year. it is just that the holiday comes only once a year, they didn't start early enough, nor did they get the momentum that liberals oppose christmas. this is absolutely orchestrated to make christmas a repug holiday

are we really buying into it on this board with all the anti christmas threads. are we soooo easily manipulated.

because last year, there was not thread after thread after thread attacking christmas like there is this year. and last year,..... we were liberals then too

1. Xmas has always been mostly a PAGAN holiday
Edited on Sun Dec-04-05 01:09 AM by tocqueville
The Puritans in New England forbade it, during the Revolution it was considered an "English" tradition and not popular. It became popular later due to popular tales and the German influence through immigration.

The religious Christian part has NEVER been dominating for the majority, specially in Europe those last 100 years. For some unknown reason, some minority groups in the US started to get offended at reindeers, claiming it was Jesus bashed upon them...

and of course the Religious Right found a new war to fight...

and this one they will win..

because who can fight reindeers ?

3. Very obviously orchestrated.
Just look at how Faux News is harping on it. It's just one more piece of the organized effort to demonize the opposition and shift the debate away from the real issues.

The irony is that the commercial practice of saying "Happy Holidays" rather than "Merry Christmas", is the result of corporations trying to maximize profits. In other words, just like another of their favorite manufactured whipping boys, "the decline of popular culture", it's the result of one of their favorite things, capitalism. I just wish that the American people could see the hypocrisy.

The idea that there's some kind of "liberal war on Christmas" is laughable unless you believe that liberals have control of the marketing practices of major retail corporations.
