I attend church and no one here has attacked me for going.

Infact I find the people on this page to be genuinely warm, concerned, and more carering for me and my disabilites than most of the "christians" I had the misfortune to know in real life. I am proud of the diversity and different view points on this board.
Just because I believe in the bible doesn't mean am right and some one else is wrong.

I also firmly believe that everyone has the right to question criticize and display anger at the people who want to make decisions which affect the rest of us. The right winger theocrats want to keep me crippled up with a disease called parkinson's. You bet i am angry.
I am damn angry that the "righties" think that a "cell" is more important than i am..

However I love my DU family and I don't care if they're gay, straight, athesist, wiccan, jew, or christian. I treat them with respect and they treat me with respect. Thats the way of the world.

So the next time a freeper or a poser says that we are people attacking my faith I challenge that person to let out a deep breath and reread the post. Nine times out of ten there saying they either dont believe in god or they have problems with the stances various churches are taken. Oh and please spare me the right wing broad brush talking point there are many many good christians here on du that feel the same as me

So to my DU family I just want to say thank you all for being there for me day in and day out. I dont care what your religious background is I think your the most awesome and most human bunch of souls I ever have met. Thank you for the support and friendship.

I am participating in a satirical way...not really attacking Christmas...since I still celebrate some of it.

:)I am grateful for the good people who post such wonderful insights here. Its good to here a person of faith post here, because to me its one of the worst things I've seen from republicans, the politicization of the church...And with such arrogance! One's personal beliefs, ones relationship to the divine is one of the most sacred, pure things...And to see politics reaching its greasy hands in just makes me wonder...

Though I'm not very religious, I have never said anything bad about the Amish or Mormons or any other religious group that doesn't try to force their beliefs on me or my family. My problem is with the religious right and their subverting of democracy to promote a specific agenda.

Now they keep pushing christmas on us. I used to love the holiday as a kid now I cant stand em.. I think am going to celebrate festivus instead. I also wish that we would meet in force and start picketing and protesting the right wing loonies outside thier churches and arch diocese. Thats the only way we can shut em up.

I don't regularly attend church. Haven't for a long time. I am pretty religious though. I pray constantly. I have mentioned my faith on DU and never had anybody say anything bad about it ever. DUers are some great kind and honest people. I agree with you on all of that.

BTW, I'm glad I've been getting to know you here on DU. You're a great guy.

well, not for that.

tolerance is a virtue of faith. I don't see we have a problem with that, it's a PR campaign - wedge issue.

I rarely feel attacked here like I have in other churches.

...it's the way some people choose to practice it. So you are not the problem. The fundies think they are being attacked because they are Christians, but it's not the reason people go after them. They are too extremist. If they stopped this, I think everyone would leave them alone.

I am a church goer (and Sunday School teacher, and vestry member - "eek") and I find DU a warm and welcoming place. I don't feel particularly attacked when the "big fluffy man in the sky fairytale" people post. As my grandpa always told me, "Each to his own, said the old lady as she kissed the cow".

The particular genius of the set-up here in America is that it allows for tolerance. That is what is under attack, and we mustn't ever forget it.
