Best day of my Father's life was his 23rd birthday

My father was born August 9th, 1951. On August 9th, 1974, he received the greatest birthday present he ever received.

No one bought it for him and it wasn't something material, sexual or financial.

Can anyone guess what his greatest birthday present was on August 9th, 1974?
