Talking to mothers of soldiers
I was at a Christmas party last night where I talked to two different women with sons in Iraq. The worry was painful to watch--the accounting of phone calls received, the tally of email messages, the discussion of how long it takes to get a package to Iraq. Both "supported" the war but, when talking about it, expressed deep misgivings. As one put it, "We have to believe that they know what they're doing, otherwise we'd go crazy." Both expected their sons to come home this spring but were afraid they wouldn't.

I hope that next year when I go to this party, both sons are home and safe.

1. I hope they come home, too.
I can not imagine how difficult that must be for parents of soldiers over there. I do not think you could psychologically handle thinking they were over there for George's oil. And to think about them dying for that oil and profit would be too much to bear. Just look at Cindy Sheehan for the answer of how it would be for a mother to lose her son for this. The anger is unbearable. I just think they would go insane if they let themselves see the truth. They just have to support their children at this point.
