How many people here are limiting to, or cutting out DU time the closer it
gets to Christmas?

I am finding the horror of life in the US that is exposed in print on DU too much to bear right now.

New Orleans for all intents and purposes is gone; tent cities are common again in the gulf states for the first time since the depression...and the press is ignoring it.

Iraq...there's just nothing to add here...there is blood on our hands, even though we didn't want it...and did everything that we are able to do in our powerless state to stop it.

The economy...I don't give a flying rats ass what the "experts" say...just about everyone I know is scared of their ability to keep up with bills right now.

And there is more...there is so much fucking more...

I am having a hard time finding "good" in my world (other than my husband/family/pets) much less the goddamned greedy, nasty bigger picture.

1. Well, I take a little time away from DU every week.
My time spent here on Sundays and Mondays is usually limited, if I'm on at all. I need that break to try and keep some perspective.

2. time off a 'must'
I also started taking time off from all the crud....

last weekend it was two days simply playing (with some looking at automobiles for sale on the web that I would love to own - a nice XKE coupe, an old PV544 Volvo, a TR3) and scheming how to own them.... even though I know peak oil is a commin and I won't be able to afford the gas) and this weekend I simply worked on the house and ignored the internet.

It seemed like for a while my actual life (the old life before I became aware of BushCo., neocons, 911 fraud, peak oil, global warming, the illegal Iraq war, etc. etc.....) I mean, how much can anybody stand of this shit day after day.

So, yes, take time off from this. Then back to the war against BushCo. with renewed.... energy?.... something.... maybe resolve.

4. I rely on DU for my news.
So I will be a regular visitor every day. Haven't watched tv news, since can't remember when.

5. me too
I depend on DU and a couple other websites for news and opinion-- the corporate media perspective is so woefully depressing and dumbed down. It's been over a year since I seriously watched tv news. It's now crystal clear to me how much the mainstream media deliberately leaves out and distorts. So during the holidays I'll limit the time, but still do my daily check-in at DU. :)

6. DU tends to amplify the impact of all events.
Its one bad thing about spending too much time on one site. I tend to read a lot of different news sources and opinions across the spectrum.
