Local Politics and Audio/Video Podcasts- SUGGESTION
How many people attend their local town council meetings or town hall meetings where House or Senate reps come? Do you record them, either via tape/digital recorder or video?

I've been thinking about grassroots news at the local level. Imagine if everyone involved in the local community created a regular or semi-regular podcast, audio or video clip about what's going on where they live. Added with that a directory listing of those local efforts, by state and city/town, so that anyone could find local vital news, from a democratic standpoint, to watch or listen to on demand.

1. Excellent idea.
This should be offered to candidates with web sites. I think Dean did text message updates which was very successful. Time to "kick it up a notch".

3. Great idea,, but I've found it tough getting
local politicans to take the technology
seriously. It took a complete takeover
of leadership to get our local Party to begin
moving out of the technological dark ages.

4. What I'm saying is YOU do it... any person can attend a meeting
if the local party doesn't do it, so what? Any citizen that attends an open meeting can record it.

5. That was one of the primary motivating factors....
behind my decision to go my own way with it.
The other was realizing how much more politically effective
it would be to keep the project party-independant.

6. Local issues come outside the party's official responsibility, anyway...
In many ways, local issues are a
whole different ball game.
For instance, I've found that a substantial
number of Bush-loving Republicans go flaming "liberal"
when it comes to certain local issues.

2. Glad you brought this up
I've been working on a project to create a
video anchored blog using content based primarily upon
local, regional, and state issues.
