Sharpton Works on CBS sitcom pilot: 'Al in the Family'
I've always thought Sharpton was a gifted humorist -- I think I'd tune in to this show!

WP/AP: Sharpton Works on 'Al in the Family' Show
The Associated Press

....Sharpton told the Daily News in Saturday's editions that he is working with CBS on a pilot, tentatively named, "Al in the Family."

"It's about conflicting social and political views," Sharpton said. "There'll also be a social message."

The Democrat, who has also run for mayor of New York and the U.S. Senate, said one possible episode would have one of his TV children becoming a Republican.

"I don't know if I am a good actor or not, but I will be playing myself and I have been practicing that for 51 years," he said.

1. I liked Al when he was on SNL last year,

but I don't think he could come anywhere near being a central character or lead actor in a scene (SNL: cuecards) much less a series.

Please, Rev, stick to what you do better....

2. TV viewership is down nearly everywhere
Al, head for the blogosphere. That's where it's at, not TV.

3. You could argue that this demonstrates that TV skirts racial issues.

Why? Because they'll only give you attention if you act like a race-baiting demagogue and making largely transparently disingenous claims such as the ones Sharpton made against Dean during the primaries. They won't give time to credible civil rights activists, only ones who make spectacles of themselves.
