Do you think the hurricane victims in Mississippi...
who voted for bush and the repugs will still feel the same. Does anyone know of anyone who has voted repub who has changed their tune since they have seen how bush's policies have affected them or others,.ie bankruptcy bill, benefit cuts, job losses, treatment of soldiers,etc... Do you think any states will go from red to blue?

1. I can't find anyone who will admit to having voted for Bush
though when I was in Springfield MO yesterday I saw a couple cars with W4 stickers on them I was tempted in asking the people if they still supported Bush and why.

2. I hope the victims have a chance to vote. With so many
"outsourced" to other states, will they be eligible in their home state or the one where they have moved? And if they vote on the Diebold machines will their votes jump to Republican lines? Since we have liberated the Iraqis and have shown them the way to "democracy" maybe we can get some Iraqis to come and watch over our voting system. After all, Iraq matters more to BushCo than our own country.

3. Entire state of Mississippi went Diebold
Does it matter if those on the coast now hate Bushco?

4. The coastal region is the closest to a Democratic region already
The coast and the Delta are the two regions that vote somewhat Democrat. The Rep from the Coast, Gene Taylor is a Democrat. The rest of the state hates the coast, and many of the Fundies blame the liberals on the coast for angering God and thus bringing the hurricane on them. So it's hard to say. Also, remember that Mississippi is around one third African American, so there is a strong Dem base to counter the strong Republican base.

Right after the hurricane my mother wore her Kerry shirt everywhere. The only people who commented on it were favorable. One guy started to defend Bush in a hardware store, but he was outnumbered, and he didn't put a lot of enthusiasm in it. On the other hand, we visited one of her very conservative friends, and the man kept saying how barbaric the blacks in New Orleans were, and how people in Mississippi knew how to behave better. it was clear he believed the "blame the victim" nonsense.

So, hard to say. Bush has lost a lot of support on the Coas. We'll see how that affects the state.

One more note. Even before Katrina, Barbour had angered a lot of voters with Medicare or Medicaid cuts, I forget which.

7. These people must not come in contact with black people
Edited on Sun Dec-04-05 03:51 PM by butterfly77
on a regular basis. I wonder if they feel the same way about Iraqis and Afghans, chinese or other races. They do all they can to keep the black race down and judge them but another race can come over here and get all kinds of benefits. Don't that realize if they stop putting their feet on the black peoples backs they could be a help to this society. Some of their policies have destroyed generations of blacks now they want to blame them for every problem they have. I wonder what they think will happen now with the new budget cuts.

5. They will STILL vote for Repukes (thank GOD they can't vote for Bush
ever again!) I don't understand, and I've quit trying, but my friends and neighbors here in south Mississippi are utterly delusional (90% of them, that is). They honestly think that voting Repuke is doing "God's work" and that's all that matters to them. As long as gays can't marry and abortion is prevented, nothing else matters. After all, they've been voting AGAINST THEIR OWN BEST INTERESTS since the 1950's...nothing will change.

6. After all of the disasters and budget cuts ...
and other things in general, you would think they could see this numbskull and his evil gang for what they are.

8. Have you asked them lately ...
... how the Republicans are 'doing God's work' by not helping their fellow citizens who have lost everything after Katrina?

9. Of course...on a daily basis
I get sweet smiles and blank stares as if I just couldn't possibly understand. See, Jesus is coming day after tomorrow (next week at the latest) to "Rapture" his church, and so the minor, temporary inconveniences of right now are of no importance.
