my bornagain sister in law wants my niece to join the army in 'god's war'
Edited on Sun Dec-04-05 03:34 PM by mopaul
no shit, you can't make this stuff up. my born again sister in law suggested that my 29 year old niece who works in a women's prison should join the army and, get this, 'go fight for america and god's war'. she's oh so delusional, and she's also started a rift in the family. my bornagain, bush voting brother has soured on bush and his war, and says he doesn't want his daughter to, get this, 'be in harm's way'.

go figger. the truly hypnotized will never give up, and they'll drag us all into hell with them if we allow them to.

1. why is it "God's war"?
Sounds like she's bought into the garbage about this being a war against Islam. Hope she doesn't live in an area where there are mosques-I'd be worried about their safety and the safety of my brothers and sisters who pray in them.

7. Beautiful Answer!!

Why is it all these warhawks are so eager for EVERYONE ELSE to go sign up and go fight and die...yet, they won't sign up themselves??

I mean, if they REALLY believe, so fervently, that this is God's war...you would think they would be knocking each other over to sign up...wouldn't they?

Nope! They'll trample each other to get their hands on the latest bargains at Wal-Mart on Black Friday...but ask them to sign up for the war, and they won't trample each other to be first in line THERE (at the recruiter's office,) now will they?

Their actions are SO transparent!

4. And Just What Makes Them Think
that God is on OUR side?? You know...the folks we're fighting believe, just as firmly, that God is on THEIR side!

Personally, I don't believe God takes sides at all, He would prefer all the citizens of the world to get along with each other, and to quit exploiting one another and killing one another.

If we ALL spent as much time and energy on making this world a better, more tolerant, nicer, more pleasant world for everyone...as we do trying to make the God-Almighty buck and suck down all the earth's resources...what a truly wonderful world this could be!

But, we have allowed ourselves to become reuled by the most greedy and corrupt among us. God help us all...because we can't seem to help ourselves!

17. why doesn't your sister-in-law join the army herself?
age doesn't matter anymore, and while i don't know how old your sister-in-law might be, i am assuming she might be a few years older than your niece. however, just for the record, the army/marines etc...

they have recalled 50+ year olds to serve in iraq.

21. I'll agree with Tom Waits on this one

In his song, Day After Tomorrow he says....

"You can't deny
The other side
Don't want to die
Any more than we do
What I'm trying to say,
Is don't they pray
To the same God that we do?
Tell me, how does God choose?
Whose prayers does he refuse?
Who turns the wheel?
And who throws the dice
On the day after tomorrow?

Mmmmmmm...
I'm not fighting
For justice
I am not fighting
For freedom
I am fighting
For my life
And another day
In the world here
I just do what I've been told
You're just the gravel on the road
And the one's that are lucky
One's come home
On the day after tomorrow"

23. Does she not understand...
That we are not really over there as missionaries, although a few individuals may think of themselves as such?

That in fact most people in that country are set in their own religion and probably don't intend on giving it up?

That there's a war going on and people aren't usually receptive to strangers coming in and telling them, "Oh, by the way, your culture is all wrong," even in the best of circumstances, let alone what they're doing right now?

If she believes in the principles of this country, one of which is the freedom of religion, why doesn't she let them do the same thing?

To want to join the military is one thing. To join for that reason is, I think, quite misguided.

24. The truly hypnotized
are listening to false prophets. That ain't no war of God's!

I'm born-again but hypnotized by the fundamentalists, I am not. I am pro-choice in reproductive rights and pro-life as far as war goes. I would not pick up a gun unless me, mine and my country were directly and IMMEDIATELY threatened; the real thing, not a made-up threat. I opposed this bogus war from the start and got mad as hell when stupid W called it a "crusade." That was about as idiotic as telling the terrorists to "bring it on." Asshat!! I can tell you whose servant I believe W really is...

There are liberal Christians and we are doing our best to counter those who would lead people astray as your sister-in-law has been. Just ask her, what does Scripture say that Jesus told us to do? He told us to help those less fortunate than ourselves. Then how in the heck can these phoney Christians approve of W's billionaire taxcuts while the poor starve? Why do they feel it's OK to squander taxdollars in making war on a helpless country while our own citizens in the Gulf States are living in tents and dying of hypothermia?

Jesus did NOT tell us to go beat Islam over the head with Christianity! No how and no way! Sis-in-law is listening to the Dark Side and that has nothing to do with God! I would love to have a discussion with her...:spank:

26. Are the fundamentalist churches
spreading this "God's War" rhetoric? I ask, because I have some co-workers who attend different fundamentalist churches but spout the same "God's War" comments. And my neighbor told us she was trying to get her 22-yr. old son to enlist. He refuses. She said she'd go...if they'd take her. An empty boast since the military is not yet desperate enough to take overweight 50-yr. old women with numerous health problems.

this is good. If these brain dead bible beaters go face reality, they might just get a shock that kicks their brains into action.
ON a more cynical level if people are going to die for Halliburton I'd rather it be their people than the rest of us.

Here's one of Sabrina Harmann being led to prison in handcuffs:
