"DeLay: Victory in Iraq Is 'Our Choice'"
HOUSTON (AP) - Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay told a group of soldiers Saturday night that withdrawing troops from Iraq now would be "a death warrant for Americans in future terrorist attacks."

"Iraq right now is the central front on the war on terror, whether we like it or not," DeLay told about 200 soldiers and their families at a banquet held in their honor. "Our choice is not between different visions of victory but between victory and surrender. Only one choice is worth the legacy of the United States and the heroes she has lost in this conflict. Victory is our choice."

At least one protester stood outside during Saturday night's event, holding up a sign criticizing DeLay's stance on the war and calling for troops to come home.

Calls to begin withdrawing troops from Iraq gained momentum last month when Democratic Rep. John Murtha of Pennsylvania, a decorated Vietnam veteran and longtime military supporter, called for a change of direction, saying continued military action in Iraq isn't in the best interests of the United States.

2. Maybe Mr. DeLay should join the military ...
... and secure our 'victory' personally. It's not such a crazy idea -- the way things are looking for him right now, a long trip out of the country might be preferable to a prison term.

4. The Majority started this war and lied to do it.
I wouldn't want to cheat some gung-ho majority freeper out of his place in Iraq, by going over there myself.

6. But plenty of troops probably don't know all the evidence that's come out.
And even if they did, how many disbelieve it?

The gamut of beliefs regarding this war is too great; and unlike the bulk of the American people, the troops don't have nearly as much to go on. And no more digital cameras to take pictures of naughty things either.

7. They get the news on AFN from Rush, thanks to the DoD and ...
your tax dollars.

The point I was Trying to make is this...

What Did You Do in the War, Hammer?

snip>

He and Quayle, DeLay explained to the assembled media in New Orleans, were victims of an unusual phenomenon back in the days of the undeclared Southeast Asian war. So many minority youths had volunteered for the well-paying military positions to escape poverty and the ghetto that there was literally no room for patriotic folks like himself. Satisfied with the pronouncement, which dumbfounded more than a few of his listeners who had lived the sixties, DeLay marched off to the convention.

5. Then choose to go over there, DeLay.
How many of the troops over there share the same sentiment?

I believe more of them are doing what it takes just to survive in one piece and NOT out of protecting the United States.

8. "doing what it takes just to survive"

I know that's what I'd be doing! It's like when I was working on top of a big building or a bridge...one hand is for me and one for the company. A guy like Tom needs both hands for himself, to rake in all that hush money and payola! I went when I got my greetings letter from old uncle sugar and never even thought of ANYONE else going in my place, but I had just turned 19 when my number came up and didn't know any better. Of course my daddy never had old man Bush's cash, so it was the Army or jail for me. Rich men's kids have other choices...THEY ALWAYS DO! Rich kid's daddies start the wars...THEY ALWAYS DO.

Even as far back as the American Civil War...Rich kids had other choices, besides fighting for their country.
