So some inbred yahoo motherfucker threw or left this beautiful puppy off
Edited on Sun Dec-04-05 05:37 PM by noahmijo
the exit side of a freeway last Thurs.

My co-worker picked her up and brought her to the office. I fell in love with it it is so adorable. She couldn't keep it because she already has 5 dogs but she didn't want to give it up to any agencies for fear that they might eventually euthanize her or even give her away to even another fucked up home.

So I kept her and brought her home. For you dog enthusiasts that may ask, I have kept a dog before, the first thing I did was take her to the vet got her initially checked up. She's healthy. Yesterday I got the first of her vaccines and a true check-up. I've got her on a vaccine/check-up plan that includes her spaying when the time comes.

The poor girl had a thorn in her back that the vet removed as well, other than that though no dieseases or worms or anything bad usually related to puppies. She had no tags or collar or anything to identify her.

As for how she looks I will post pics of her in her new home with us when I get around to it (right now we're still sort of in set-up mode) I already went all out and got her a huge kennel, lots of dry and wet food, a bed, and some chew toys and treats.

She looks like she definitely has some St Bernard in her but she has the face more like a sheperd or maybe even a akita.

Amazingly she is already almost housebroken and actually tugs at me sometimes in the middle of the night wanting me to take her outside to poop or piddle.

She is extremely friendly with people-you pet her and she loves you pure and simple which is amazing given what kind of home she probably came from.

Speaking of where she came from the area she was picked up in is a terrible area of town rife with ignorant yahoos who like to shoot gophers just for fun, and probably dabble in a little animal torture here and there.

Yes it is in fact a VERY "Red" area just to throw a little politics out there.

I shit you not this town's bad side has some sick demented fucks which is why quite frankly if someone eventually does bother to report her missing I'm not gonna answer it.

It's been 4 days now and no one's bothered to call in or do anything (we contacted Animal Control and the humane society and alerted them that we have a missing dog but thus far no one has called back)

So as far as I'm concerned she's ours and she will have a fantastic home and she already has gotten used to me and my girlfriend and we will ensure that she gets the best care possible.

The vet said she's about 2 months old, so spaying won't be an option till about 4 months I think.

Oh and we named her "Keela" :)

More on her when I get around to it but here are a few pics:

3. How adorable
I know some republicans who are great dog advocates, they foster them until someone will adopt them so they don't get killed at shelters.

I'm so glad you were willing and able to welome it to your family. Thats one lucky dog who has gotten a great break. Good luck and many years of loyal, loving companionship.

6. She's well socialized and well fed
so my guess is that she wandered away from a good home in a bad area. They do exist, you know, I represent one. I have two pampered rescued cats.

In any case, it sounds like she's found the place a nice dog deserves. Good luck to you both.

7. My wife and I found four newborn kittens last March in a dumpster.
In about the reddest suburb of Atlanta. They weren't meant to be found judging by where they were under hundreds of empty beer bottles behind a restaurant.

We just happen to hear them "peeping" when a full parking lot forced us to park behind the building.

We kept two and friends of ours took the other two.

People are scum.

34. We've saved 5 kittens in 3 years from loads of cardboard
that have come in to my plant. We named the last one Lucky, she was about 4 days old. The bookeeper ran out for milk, we got her feeding and one of my drivers took her home. She's now 6 weeks and into everthing. :)

The kennel I got is for dogs who are 110lbs
Edited on Sun Dec-04-05 05:45 PM by noahmijo
The kennel in the pic is the old kennel I just realized. At first I got one that I thought would be good enough just to have something to put her in for the night and maybe last a few months. That was the day where out of nowhere I inherited her and I needed something before the night was over to put her in.

The next day I went out and got (exchanged for) the big kennel which hopefully should last a long time.

Overall the kennel is just something to keep her secured till she fully learns the rules of the house (i.e. she understands she can't bite and chew and poop on everything in sight)

:)

25. My experience with crate training
It's really a great way to train a pup. My dog hasn't been a puppy for a long time, but she still loves it, and sleeps in it every night. When it's time for bed, she runs to her little home and doesn't come out again until morning. It's comfortable and secure, and she just loves her own little space.
I would keep it even after she's trained if you have the space. You may find it's her favorite spot in the house.
She's beautiful, BTW.

15. She would have been mine too if I had been
in your position. What a cutie!

We have picked up several discarded dogs, one had been badly abused and he was a real mess. Still, they have always been the most faithful and loving dogs. They know what you did for them. Doesn't matter though does it? You would love them anyway. I had 4 cats that were dumped as tiny kittens at my farm too. Sometimes I totally lose faith in my fellow man, quite often actually since this is not an isolated problem.

She is cute as can be. Is all the color on her head? She looks like a raccoon in reverse. Give her a big scratch for me.

You are one of the good people.

Have fun.

17. Good for you adopting the sweet little creature
If a person can't take care of a pet, they could at least have dropped it off at a shelter, a police station or something. Leaving it at the side of the road is just cruel. That dog was not ready to live in the woods.

Glad a kinder person found it and you were able to take it home. Looks like a cute pup, should make you a good friend. ;)

23. Well done. Beautiful dog -- by the intelligence in her eyes, I'd guess...
she has some Border Collie in her. Shape of her face suggests that too.

(In truth I'm deeply envious. I had dogs all my life, but now because of the restricted housing in which I'm condemned by economics to live out the rest of my life, I will never be allowed canine companionship again -- and there are no words to describe how much I miss it.)

She's so sweet!!! I'm glad she has a new home with you. Since nobody has reported it if you live in a smallish type town maybe they didn't want her anymore. From what you describe that's what it sounds like to me. She sounds like a sweet little one. And I was surprised she's already coming and asking you to go out to the bathroom and knew what to do. Sounds like she was potty train or a really smart dog. ;) Sounds like she has a great home with you! I remember a few years ago before my great-grandmother died we were out at her place and someone dropped off the sweetest dog out there. You could tell they were abused (I think a he) because of how they reacted towards people (very shyly). My cousin (through marriage, my uncle is his stepdad) though played with him and was very sweet and the little dog warmed up to him really quickly too. Thank you for being so sweet to the little dog and I do see where you're coming from with finding another home. She seems to already like yours. :)

What a beautiful puppy!!!! Did you ever ask Santa for one when you were a kid? The old man is sometimes a bit late on deliveries.

In the spirit of the season, I prefer to believe that, rather than some cruel idiot abandoning it by the side of the road. She's a gift to you and your girlfriend from santa, cosmos, or whatever you'd like to call it.

Keela has a home and family, you have a lovely dog - Merry Christmas!

33. I'm envious! She's gorgeous!
I found an adorable little bunny two weeks ago which I couldn't keep having three cats and a dog so the neighbor who had little boys, said she'd take care of him while we looked to see if someone had lost him. I lent a cat cage and a big dog cargo kennel for her to keep him in temporarily. It turns out she wasn't doing such a hot job of taking care of him because I and another neighbor found him outside again! He's only about 4 months old! The other neighbor wants to keep him as she has two other rabbits and has raised rabbits all her life so that's working out. No one has answered my fliers for 'Found Bunny.' I confronted the first neighbor who lamely said "He ran away." My husband said "You mean you lost him!" I got my cat carrier and dog kennel back totally filthy. She didn't even have the sense to put newspaper down for the rabbit and they were coated in rabbit poop. I don't think she cleaned them out at all. Thank God he got out of there and we found him again! I kept asking the dingbat neighbor how he was and she said "Oh he's fine." That woman shouldn't have pets OR children!

To cut short a long story that I didn't intend to get long, the neighbor who has Buddy the Bunny now can take really good care of him and loves him. She also has three children and is a stay at home mom. Her husband works but it's tight around there. I paid for his vet visit and will probably pay for his neutering also. (She has an unfixed female rabbit! Uh oh.) Neutering a bunny costs $160.00!!!! Apparently they need special anethesia.

There goes that IPOD I wanted for Christmas but on the bright side, I am now a bunny godmother! If I didn't have cats, I'd have a bunny!

And you are my hero! :)

I have saved some pooches too, we just brought home a lab/golden mix who is pure black and is going to be a big gal, named Stella.

I think you are right about the St bernie mix but how about with a Shepard? I remember reading many years ago in one of my rescue group magazines about "big lugs". This gentleman wrote about the virtues of adopting "Big Lug" mixes, like St.Bernards and Danes, etc. He swore they made the very best friends! :)

37. Regular dumpings:
I lived for 12 years in an area where dog dumping was commonplace. I could be sure to get 2-3 a year. When we reached the limit of dogs we could afford to keep, I would put water out and call the animal shelter to come get them; an agonizing decision, but better than starving and dehydrating to death in the desert until the coyotes took them down. Sometimes, when the dog was adoptable, I would be the "rescue shelter," and find the dog a home myself.

Soon you won't be able to imagine life without your furry addition.

39. Some dogs have a way of finding the one they are meant to be with.
Sometimes we go looking for a dog or a puppy, and we find one that it just seems "right."

Other dogs, especially those who are rescued in one form or another, seem to have something special in their hearts which leads them to the home where they will be loved and appreciated and taken care of.

You have been granted a very special gift, noahmijo, because your heart is filled with love, I think Keela is a very lucky dog, and I see from the heart-shaped tag that a lot of the love in your heart is going to her. She will bring you much joy and you will be an example that may also open other hearts to adopting a rescue.

40. Thank you for doing this
I think rescuing an animal is one of the greatest things we as humans can do. It is usually a human that lets them down in the first place, so it is wonderful when another one (a good one) comes along and changes their world for the better. Kudos to you! And much love to Keela...I'm so glad she found her way to you (I'll bet she is too!)

And also for being responsible enough for seeing that she has the best of care. That's the least that we can do for them. Both of my dogs are from rescue, though I take senior dogs. My little guy, a rare Brussels Griffon, is now 12, and my terrier, Sara, is ten. I've had them for three and two years, respectively. My little guy was relatively healthy, but my girl has had problems, all of which seem to be on the retreat, with good veterinary care. But they are mine for a lifetime, and I wish you a lifetime of happiness with this beautiful pup. She really is adorable, and very fortunate to have found you.:D
