The American Taliban AKA The Network

How the 'christian' Right and Religious Right Broadcasters threaten America's Freedom and Democracy

1. Genesis

There wasn't always a 'Christian Right'. It formed, it was born, created, spawned. How was it created? Why did it come about? Just how does the 'christian' Right and it's media groups threaten our freedoms?

"The term New Religious Right refers to a set of organizations that emerged in the late 1970s, the Moral Majority (later renamed the Liberty Federation), the Religious Roundtable, and the Christian Voice; their leaders, including Robert Grant, Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, and Ed McAteer; and the movement that these leaders and organizations fostered. Though this movement made a broad, religiously based conservative appeal, its deepest roots and most lasting impact were among white evangelicals and fundamentalist Christians (p. 97)."

The 'christian' Right really came about in the 70's. The same people are seen all over the place, Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, Ed McAteer, Paul Weyrich, and the Coors Dynasty.

But, what is the problem with all of this?

Why is this so bad?

The 'christian' Right isn't some confederated force of psychotic loonies. They have formed a secret coalition. They have a grip on the media. There is a Conspiracy and 'christian' Right Activists and Religious Broadcasters which has the potential to destroy our Republic.

2. The Network

There exists a network of Broadcasters and 'christian' Right preachers.

Enter the Council for National Policy.

The CNP forms a network of Far Right Activists, Wealthy Reactionaries, and Religious Right Broadcasters. The CNP was founded by a Religious Right Activist, Tim LaHaye, in 1981.

The CNP is linked to:
Pat Robertson
Jerry Falwell
James Dobson
D. James Kennedy
Tony Perkins
Rick Scarborough
Louis Sheldon
And more

Following Groups which have those people linked to the CNP:
Focus on the Family
Christian Broadcasting Network
Texas Restoration Project
Family Research Council
Various Mega-Churches
And more

This Network also exists outside of the CNP. The Abramoff memos have indicated that there is some sort of communication and conspiring between the various members of the 'christian' Right. On page 313 of the Abramoff Memos that were used in the Senate Hearings, we know that Jerry Falwell and other people in the 'christian' Right were involved in Jack Abramoff's scamming of an Indian Tribe.

This Network is far reaching. What does it mean for America?

3. Implications

With this Network existing, it means several things.

1. Manipulation of local and state politics and elections - The Preachers and the Broadcasters can have as many as 10's of 1000's of people watching and listening to them, and clinging to every word that they say. They have an influence over American voters. With this network, this makes this influence a little scary.

2. Republican Domination - These Preachers are not Non-Partisan. They have shown that they have ties to the Republican Party. They contribute to domination by the Republican Party.

3. Hate Crimes and Violence - The Hate from the 'christian' Right has gotten so bad that the Southern Poverty Law Center has considered the 'christian' Right to be one big Hate Group.

"The organization continues to monitor white supremacist groups as well as the rise of anti-immigration sentiment and other extremist activity. The center never in its 34-year history took aim at the religious right before now, but the rising volume of the national debate over gay marriage puts such groups in the limelight, Potok said.

“Our bailiwick is extremism,” he said. “We’ve avoided the Christian Right in the past, and we don’t feel we’ve expanded to include the Christian Right — we feel very strongly they have entered our world .

“They have gone absolutely wild. The level of personal demonization was really quite remarkable. We felt we had to say, ‘Thus far, no further,’"

4. Oppressive Laws - One of the things that the 'christian' Right supported were Taliban like 'Sodomy Laws'. Many of their people supported the idea of keeping sodomy laws constitutional.

“If the people have no right to regulate sexuality then ultimately the institution of marriage is in peril, and with it, the welfare of the coming generations of children.”
—Tom Minnery, vice president of public policy at Focus on the Family.

“Today’s Supreme Court decision overturning a Texas law against homosexual sodomy is a defeat for public morality and America’s families. This ill-conceived decision will have serious repercussions upon public health and welfare in Texas and other states that still criminalize sodomy.”
—Rev. Louis P. Sheldon, chairman of Traditional Values Coalition.

With all of these things considered, it is very reasonable to believe that these people want to hurt our rights and our freedoms.

4. Resistance

We CAN and we MUST stop the American Taliban.

1. If a Church goes political, report it to the FEC

2. Ally with Religious Left groups

3. Tell people about the Council for National Policy

4. Expose Schisms and Rifts in the Far Right

5. Don't fall for their tricks and their lies. There IS a wall of separation of Church and State. It is normal to be Gay. They WILL roll back Civil and Equal Rights.

This Network exists. Mahmoud Ahmannejad, the extremely Right Wing President of Iran, was elected with the help of a network of Mosques. With secretive groups such as the Council for National Policy around, it is ridiculous to believe that the 'christian' Right in America can not do the same. In fact, we are already seeing it, Bush has supposedly met with the CNP in 1999 and 2002.

This Network is already influencing how America is run, we must stop them.
