Merry Christmas. You're all fired!
After working the night shift last night I returned home and went to sleep, only to be awoken by my boss requesting my return to work immediately because our center had just been closed and we were all fired. Our jobs are being shifted to Kansas and Texas. Better than last time I guess, when my job was shipped to India.

A pink slip just in time for the holidays. Just what I always wanted!

The best part was when I returned home again and found a Christmas card from our CEO in my mailbox. "Together, let's make 2006 our best year ever!" Just an extra F-U to the employees in Maine.

11. The writing was on the wall

I predicted this months ago and had a handful of coworkers convinced. My immediate supervisors denied it and followed the company line: We had a hiring freeze because of the loss of revenue from New Orleans. When our other site started hiring whole teams of people who do the same job as us, while our hiring freeze remained intact, they said it was because our performance was so solid (even though we were at half staffing). Even last night they were lecturing me for my doom and gloom predictions. I just wish I'd had a chance to see them today. We looked into starting a union a few months ago, but that was squashed in no time when one of our coworkers squealed to management.

The job itself was good, with mostly good coworkers and our manager was very cool. He did his best for us and probably bought us a couple of extra months of employment.

Things are decent in Maine, but I am hoping to use this as an opportunity to move somewhere else and start over, probably in New Hampster. My goal had been to move to Manchester next summer to get ready for the 2007 campaign season, but that may be accelerated now.

I'm not going to say who I worked for (I actually had to sign a release which read, among other things, that I would not say anything bad about the company) but it was a top security firm. And if you are in need of such services for your home or business, I would recommend ADT or Brinks :P

Wouldn't Portsmouth be a better location for a liberal? Or Concord? Or even Peter-
borough/Wilton?

'Cause Manchester pretty much sucks canal water.

7. Corporate Profits
know no compassion....

they don't pay any attention to the time of year

employees are expendable commodities...use 'em up and throw 'em away.

I'm getting pretty cynical about what happens when capitalism runs wild and unchecked.

13. Happy Holidays—and You’re Fired!
U.S. companies send out more pink slips in the fourth quarter than at any other time of year. Here's how managers can soften the blow. Plus, how to keep office parties from getting too rowdy.

Axes, after all, aren't just for Christmas trees. Thousands of American jobs will be cut as the holiday season approaches. General Motors is slashing 30,000 jobs; Delta Airlines, 9,000; Merck, 7,000; America Online, 700.

In Colorado, recent job-cut announcements include Cenveo, which is closing a printing plant and shedding 128 jobs. Also, used-car lender Centrix Financial has cut 250 people since September.

Holiday Layoffs Put Damper on Christmas Spirit

A Franklin County manufacturing plant has shut down, laying off more than 100 employees. It came as a shock to the employees who showed up for work Monday only to find out they no longer had a job.

Frito-Lay will cut workforce

Up to 250 workers at Frito-Lay Inc. face pre-holiday layoffs as parent company PepsiCo Inc. wrestles with rapidly increasing costs and shifting consumer tastes.

Early Wednesday, Plano-based Frito-Lay announced its first layoffs since 1991, saying it will furlough at least 200 workers in early December.

DETROIT TEACHERS UNION CRITICIZES DISTRICT FOR CHRISTMAS EVE LAYOFFS

The Detroit News reported that the president of the Detroit Federation of Teachers criticized the Detroit Public Schools at a news conference last week for the district's decision to lay off 374 teachers to help relieve the district's current-year $150 million deficit. The layoffs drew particular ire because the notices were distributed on Christmas Eve.
