Should our State Dem Parties "Outsource" Fundraising Calls?
(This is a Copy of E-Mail I've sent to all my Dem/Progressive and other contacts about this OUTRAGE...to me...:-(

------------------

My phone rang a few minutes ago and when I answered, I got a message that I had a call from the NC Democratic Party. I said: "Yes?" and the person on the other end of the phone line went into a "memo" about how the NC Democrats needed my support for legislative issues and did I know about all the problems facing NC with "Health Care"...etc.

The person on the phone had a very "ODD ACCENT" and there was alot of noise in the background making it hard to not only understand her but to hear her.

I asked her: "Are you at a 'Phone Bank' because I hear alot of "background noise." The person answered: "Yes, I'm in Minnesota calling you...and then she got very confused...but broke in and asked if I could give $100.00 to the North Carolina Democratic Party to support them.

I said: "I've given to the NC Democratic Party and just put me down as "Given" on your tally. She seemed more confused and really seemed to need another donation from me.

HERE IS MY PROBLEM!!! WHAT THE HELL....IS THE NC DEMOCRATIC PARTY DOING USING CALLERS FROM MINNESOTA TO SOLICIT FUND? THIS WOMAN SOUNDED LIKE ONE OF THE "INDIANS" who help me with my SERVER problems for my "ISP!"

I'm not trying to get this woman from Minnesota who could barely speak English to lose her job........But WHY AREN'T NC'LINIANS being HIRED BY OUR DEM PARTY TO SOLICIT FUNDS when we have so many out of work with the Furniture Industry, Textiles (Pillotex) and others who REALLY NEED TO BE PAID BY US TO PHONE BANK.

I have given to the NC Democratic Party, I'm involved with it...(And a Contributor to the Progressive Dems, the National Dems and have personally spent my own money during the Kerry/Edwards Campaign for Dems),but if this DISGRACEFUL "Phone Banking for Party Donations" Continues....then there is something VERY WRONG with not only our NC Dem Party but our national Party.

This was so disgusting to me...I don't have words to convey more than my ANGER!!!! (Forgive the typo's in this...I don't have much time and was posting quickly).

1. We need jobs in Minnesota
Edited on Mon Dec-05-05 08:57 PM by dflprincess
My nephew worked for an outfit here that did fundraising calls for various organizations including political parties - he didn't last long at it - it's an awful job.

I don't know why any political party is paying to have people do fundraising calls, they used to get volunteers to do that and saved some expense.

3. Actually, yes I agree with you.
I was trying to be clever. It does seem odd that they'd be using an outfit in Minnesota to call North Carolina. And it doesn't seem right given that part of any money raised from North Carolina Democrats will go to paying wages in Minnesota and not NC (I suppose we should be happy they're at least using an outfit in the U.S.). You should call or email your state party chair and ask them for an explanation - I'd be interested in hearing what they tell you.

10. I just e-mailed all my NC Contacts....and one of them just replied who is

in the State Beaurocratic Organization and she is going to track it down.

I'm putting it out here, because this is so offensive. Like would you want someone on NC calling you talking from a memo about the issues in your State when you figured out she didn't know what the hell she was talking about?

If we need to hire folks...let's hire them from our own states where folks are hurting for jobs rather than sending them to "phone banks."

I can't be sure that this person really was from Minnesota ...her accent was very odd and she could have been from "offshore" she sounded that odd. A little Minnesota with the vowels and much India/Indian with the rest.....and not what I have ever gotten in calls from my Party. Since I'm a former Precinct Vice Chair and now a Delegate...I give alot to the Dem Party Locally...so having this caller from "somewhere else" asking me for a "100.00" was really offputting...given her accent and when I asked her where she was calling from.

5. I got a call from the FL Dem party that came from Minnesota
I only answered because I have family there. Needless to say, I was surprised to hear someone asking me to donate to a Florida senatorial campaign committee.

7. Thanks for verifying that....I've got fellow DU'ers almost accusing me of
being a "freeper" that after asking the caller to identify where she was coming from where she said "Minnesota" that I didn't go far enough and call the National Dem Headquarters.

Fellow DU'ers talking to me like I was a "dumb bunny" and calling me "hysterical." UGH!!!!

Anyway...thanks for verification to my asking the person who called.

:-)'s to you!!!

6. Sometimes political organizations and candidates
hire fundraising firms to raise money. I don't think it matters where in the US that phone bank is calling from.

8. A "Caller" spouting Local NC issues asking for funds shouldn't be
questioned? Is that what you are saying?

What about that old expression: "All Politics is Local?"

Or are you saying just "Outsorce the whole Enchilada" because....it's what's being done...it's the "norm." :eyes:

I have so many problems with what you say...if this is what you mean.

9. I'm not saying it is right or wrong, just that it appears the NC Dems
contracted with a firm in MN to make fundraising calls. I will not condemn this action, because it is not uncommon.Maybe there are no fundraising firms in NC they could have gone with, or maybe this firm was cheapest, I don't know.

It's not something I would do from a public relations perspective, but I'm not going to judge someone else's campaign strategy. Maybe they thought North Carolinians wouldn't care, I don't know.

Perhaps you should call the NC Dem Party and get the scoop before you make up your mind. There's probably a logical reason.
