Showtime Sleeper Cell series.. anyone watching this?
Edited on Tue Dec-06-05 02:04 AM by radio4progressives
It sure is freaky. I'm not a subscriber to showtime, they're just running promotional this week, and I picked up on this new series. Wonder how long this show is going to run - good gawd it's freaky.

wonder what others thought of this show... it seems kind of like a set up in some ways, and kind of stupid in other ways. wonder if spooks like it much or if they gag at some of the set ups.

just idle curiousity...

1. It runs for 2 weeks
One hour each weeknight and recaps at the weekends. I've just started watching #2 11pm on the west coast. Pretty good so far... and not too far fetched at all.

3. does it creep you out any? it's really got me spooked, which is the point
of course ... they're doing a good job portraying these freaks as psychopaths - which of course they have to be in order to do what they try to accomplish.

That head guy pretending to be jewish, and also runs a security company - now that's damn freaky. I wonder if any of these scenarios are based on true dipictions?

guess we'll never know....

actually i don't want to know.

In a way, this show seems to want to instill paranoia about everybody you meet. i'm wondering if that is actually the ultimate goal. be afraid, be constantly afraid of everyone and everything.

2. Watched It Last Night.
Unsure. But anything from Showtime gains my respect.

Only reason I subscribe is because of their Democratic-Independent themes.

5. Pretty boy Hollywood actors, umm...I'll pass.
I saw several print adverts for this dumb ass show and I'll be the first to tell you exactly how these guys got cast. It's all looks, baby. I might watch a bit, but really I'm sick of being dragged around by the bastard child of pay television. Why not go balls out and actually cast actors who aren't going to get a callback on All My Children. Oh, wait, that would involve artistic integrity something Showtime often lacks.

7. I watched the pilot...
...and I'll watch the whole thing. It has my attention.

My impressions from the pilot:

It's far more realistic a depiction of "fighting terrorism" than E-ring or 24. The US can only "fight terrorism" through human intelligence and police action, not military force.

The casting is reasonable. I hated the skinhead right off the bat because I've known those types all my life. Extremists. They don't care who they hate, as long as they hate.

Plot, well, it's just the pilot, but it's plausible, and you can see how the tactics are employed. Frankly though, terrorists are the enemy in vogue. As hinted when the undercover guy commented that if the neo-nazis make a return as "the enemy", the other guy gets to take "point". Extremists, gangs, criminal networks, they all employ similiar tactics to recruit and enforce loyalty.

I'll be interested in seeing where they take this.
