Should I boycott Walt Disney World--for having *...?
Edited on Tue Dec-06-05 06:41 AM by bliss_eternal
...at their Christmas parade?

Iformation taken from this thread:

snip

A Disney Family Tradition
In addition to the parade’s impressive list of performers, the 22nd Annual Walt Disney World Christmas Day Parade will feature fanciful pageantry from Disney’s globally renowned theme parks, including Walt Disney World in Florida and Disneyland Resort in California. At the heart of the show, the Walt Disney World Christmas Parade takes center stage, with Disney favorites making their way down Main Street, U.S.A., in the Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom.

Princess Carriages carrying Cinderella, Snow White, Aurora with princes
Performance of Beauty and the Beast starring John O’Hurley singing Be Our Guest at Cinderella’s Castle
Power Rangers Car featuring the Power Rangers

U.S. Military Processional with remarks from President George W. Bush

I can't believe WDW would allow themselves to be used this way--unless every President appears at the premiere of the Christmas parade.

:hi:

10. I loved the play on WDW and "It's a small . . . " in the first Shrek
movie . . . that was a nifty little hit piece on Disney . . .

15. Or the Simpson's Duff Gardens episode
The one where Lisa drinks the water and freaks out during the "Duff World" ride. That's pretty good Disney satire, too, along with Busch Gardens and the way beer companies market to kids while pretending not to market to kids.

to silence Michael Moore.

7. I understand--
but I feel badly boycotting the entire state, when they have good Dems there too--sadly they were silenced.

Do we boycott an entire state, and the Dems that exist there in the process because of what those in charge did?

I'm not trying to make light of your decision--I respect what you've decided to do. I'm wondering for myself...

11. Don't go there, but not because of Shrub
It's jsut phoney. I went there when it first opened, and when Epcot opened. Went another time with a nephew, and found it so fake I really couldn't stand it any more. Go someplace real, someplace operated by people and not corporations. Your patronage will be more appreciated, and you'll get to see and do things that the masses miss.

18. Disney is a tough case. On one hand, they are unconscionable bastards,
they treat their people like total shit, and constantly fleece the sheeple. OTOH they do support many progressive causes that gets them shit from the wingnuts.
Oh yeah, and the rides suck.

24. Oh I know--
I was blown away by that realization. I guess sometimes I still struggle with it. It's hard to give up the concept of something that is beloved in ways.

I read one of the books on the behind the scenes of Disney, kind of comparing the old regime--those that worked under Walt and those that took over the park after him. Night and day difference, in terms of how the company treats their employees now compared to before, particularly the park employees. I can only speak for the west coast (that was what the book was based on). I haven't encountered any from the Fla. park to know how they are treated, but I assume it isn't much better.

Sure, they get certain perks but those that worked during the time when Walt's standards were still honored and stayed after that definitely have seen the difference.

Like you said, it's hard for me to completely write them off as a company when they support so many progressive causes.

One notable example is gay days. They (Disney) take(s) a lot of shit from orange county right wingers for that day. Those people really make me sick with their hatred, they constantly threaten to boycott Disney and the park, but never do--they'd rather go to the park during gay days and attempt to verbally assault gay couples around the park.

:puke:

26. greyhound1966
forgot to mention this--

Used to frequently visit some of the disneyland fan sites. I've found some of the most rabid disney fans are hideous rw freaks! They seem to think that Disney is THEIR legacy, and hate to see what they term as 'the liberal insanity' bleeding into their beloved company--destroying their ideal of family values by allowing gays in the park and (gasp) to perform in the parades, oh and (how dare they) let those blacks, mexicans and jews work there--

I wish I was kidding. I've seen this kind of bullshit (just prior to it being admined and removed at one site).

I shouldn't say it's the majority--but it's far more people than I ever expected to be disney fans. I thought with the company supporting as many liberal/progressive causes rw'ingers wouldn't be interested...I was wrong.

20. No. Not with as much money as they pull in each day.

They won't notice any difference. If you attend, what you ought to do is find a position at the front of the crowd of parade watchers. And just as Shit-for-Brains and his entourage passes by extend your arm with your middle finger displayed in all its glory. Be sure you are in line with as many TV cameras as possible as it will surely be on a live broadcast.

25. LOL! LOL!
If I lived nearby, I would DEFINITELY put in an appearance to do that very thing!

That would rock, being able to tell the grandkids someday that I flipped off the worst president in the history of America, and it was televised.
