Pakastini Ode to Bush: "solid as steel, strong in his faith"
Pakistan deletes 'pro-Bush' poem

Mr Bush (left) is a key backer of President Musharraf
Pakistan's government is to remove a poem from a school textbook after it emerged the first letters of each line spelt out "President George W Bush".
The anonymous poem, called The Leader, appeared in a recent English-language course book for 16 year-olds.

Critics say it praises Mr Bush. Its rhyming couplets describe someone "solid as steel, strong in his faith".

Officials cannot explain how the poem entered the curriculum. Pupils are being told to ignore it.

The textbook is due to be reprinted next year.

THE LEADER by anonymous
Patient and steady with all he must bear,
Ready to meet every challenge with care,
Easy in manner, yet solid as steel,
Strong in his faith, refreshingly real.
Isn't afraid to propose what is bold,
Doesn't conform to the usual mould,
Eyes that have foresight, for hindsight won't do,
Never backs down when he sees what is true,
Tells it all straight, and means it all too.
Going forward and knowing he's right,
Even when doubted for why he would fight,
Over and over he makes his case clear,
Reaching to touch the ones who won't hear.
Growing in strength he won't be unnerved,
Ever assuring he'll stand by his word.
Wanting the world to join his firm stand,
Bracing for war, but praying for peace,
Using his power so evil will cease,
So much a leader and worthy of trust,
Here stands a man who will do what he must.

11. I posted this last night, and I think it's Lynne Cheney
Anybody who has read any of her pathetic attempts at pornographic fiction will recognize the stilted style in this bit of doggerel.

It's so awful, it's funny.

6. My juvenile attempt.
Patient with all we must bear.
Ready to meet Fitzgeralds cold stare.
Easy in a Manor yet still a schlemiel
Strong as a fanatic, our fates he will seal.
Isn't afraid to propose what he's told.
Doesn't go bad when left in damp mold.
Eyes that are beady, Four eyes won't do.
Never backs down though the world begs him to.
Tells it all straight, like easy voodoo.
Going forward and far to the right.
Even when when his Generals ask why he would fight.
Over and over like a drunk through his beer
Growing in stink he won't be unnerved.
Ever assuring he'll support the absurd
Wanting the world to join in quick sand
Bracing for war, never thinking of peace,
Using his power so the evil does not cease
So much a leader like others in the dust
Here stands a nation. Will we do what we must?

8. I wonder how long it will take for this...
... to be recited in American schools immediately after the Pledge of Allegiance.

*gack* I thought of that? *ick*

12. Here's my remake.
Pathetic and stupid and all he must smear,
Ready to mangle every challenge with a sneer.
Easy in lying, while giving his spiel,
Simulating a faith, nothing is real.
Isn’t afraid to leave you out cold,
Doesn’t care that the country been sold.
Eyes that are evil, for kindness won’t do,
Never backs down, he can’t see what is true.
Tells fraudulent tales, and means it all too.
Going forward even though he’s not right,
Even when doubted for why he would fight.
Over and over he kills that is clear,
Reaching to torture the ones who won’t hear.
Growing in insanity he won’t be unnerved,
Ever assuring he’ll screw you by his word,
Wanting the world so all the oil he can land,
Bullying for war, there’s no profit in peace,
Using his power so evil can increase,
So rotten a leader not worthy of trust,
Here stands a failure, the world in disgust.
