36. Thanks for that info
My wife is a nurse and she spends a lot of time on her feet and she sure likes SAS shoes. I'm glad to hear they are a product of the U S.
I just figured they were made in china like most are.

47. New Balance is still around here in Maine...
They actually treat their employees really well...I think it was last year they had a banner year, and gave everyone MASSIVE Xmas bonuses (I heard around 5K). They heavily invest in the community too (donating tons of shoes to the local boys & girls club etc.).

27. I know that when I was shopping for new bedding earlier this
year, I couldn't find anything in my price range that was American made.

As well, I bought my husband some new shirts this fall and every one of them was made either in China or Pakistan. They weren't from Wal-Mart either.

20. I'm not sure
I just know they make TVs over there and frequently advertise for workers. It's about an hour's drive away so I don't pay much attention. Near where I live is a company called Kyowa which makes some kind of parts for those TVs. I know several people who work for Kyowa.

One of the largest American employers and you had people slamming it in several threads a couple weeks ago. If you aren't going to support American companies with American workers they won't survive.

19. Rubbermaid, Video Games.
Rubbermaid had to close their last plant in Ohio, because Wal-Mart wanted them to drop their prices, or WM wouldn't buy their stuff. So they went to China.

Remember Atari? Mattel and Coleco? All American games companies, games designed by Americans, and at least the original Atari machine was made in the US. Nintendo took that over in the late 80s and it's been Japan ever since. I think the X-Box is made overseas too. Atari and Coleco went belly up.

28. Atari's name and properties were bought by Hasbro
...in 1997. Atari itself no longer exists. Hasbro resurrected the name. TimeWarner sold Atari Arcade Games (divested from Atari in 1984) to Midway (Divested from Bally in the early 90s), which is still in operation in Corsicana Texas, but the discs are made by Sony, Nintendo, MS, etc. Same for EA's games.

They're headquartered in Redwood City, CA. They have three main development studios in the US, one in Canada, and one in the UK. They have other studios elsewhere.

So no obvious programming in India... yet. Though I am sure it is coming!

48. You usually don't have to.
Anyone still producing commodity items like mixers in the USA usually survives because the products are of very high quality. Go look at a Kitchenaid mixer (not sold in Wal*Mart, and they don't give a rip). Bulletproof, just like in the old days, and available in many stunning colors.

30. Electronics parts
including CDROMs, most semiconductors, gyroscopes; consumer electronics of all types; furniture (disappearing rapidly, made in China now), textiles, and enough bullets to supply the troops in Iraq.

If there's another big war before we abandon the ruinous dogma of free trade for corporations and no protection for US workers and strategic industries, we are going to be FUBAR come the next big war.

Offshoring is not only beggaring the American people, it's crippling the country as a whole.

38. True, yet some of the best handmade guitars are made in the USA and
Spain. Those are the only types I still own: a Spanish classical guitar (Ramirez), and a flamenco, and one American (1979 Gibson SG) - the others were destroyed in New Orleans.

Australians and Germans make great handmade guitars too.

43. Almost all textiles, furniture, dare I even say
foods.....look at the labels on the packaging in the grocery stores. Most fruits and vegetables seem to be imported-even the "everyday" ones.

The only thing that I've found lately that proudly proclaim ti be made in the USA are my dog's rawhide chews...
Please search out the galleries and artist co-ops, craft shows, etc. as you think of holiday shopping. These are sources of fine examples of American made artisany and art-and deserve to be supported over the malls.
