Stepdad seeks life support for 11-year-old he allegedly beat into a coma
Wonder which way the Fundies will go on this one:

"BOSTON - The stepfather of an 11-year-old girl went to Massachusetts' highest court on Tuesday hoping to block the state from taking her off life support.

If the girl dies, he could face a murder charge for taking part in the beating that left her comatose.

Haleigh Poutre was hospitalized in September after her stepfather and adoptive mother kicked her and beat her nearly to death with a baseball bat..."

1. One has to wonder
if his motives are pure--or is he merely trying to escape a murder charge?

9. Of course its to escape the murder charge.
What loving parent or step parent beats the shit out of a child with a baseball bat? Poor kid. Abandoned by her mother and apparently lived a life of hell with these two jerks, only to be beaten into a coma. He needs to go to prison and into the general population.

3. Sorry Dad ... you lost the right to make decisions for her ...
the moment you hit her with a baseball bat! I hope someone steps in and does what's best for the poor girl. :-(

"Within two weeks of being charged with assault and battery, the adoptive mother, Holli Strickland, who was also Haleigh's aunt, was found dead alongside her grandmother in a possible murder-suicide. "

13. This isn't the first case of this

Actually, there have been several:

Such situations present a huge dilemma for the legal system: If someone is charged in injuring someone, should that person also have say over whether the victim is kept alive?

15. first her real parents abandon her, then her adopters beat her brainless
Some day, we'll stop viewing children as transferrable property. We'll also stop allowing adults to assault and batter kids as punishment and "discipline".

Hope I live to see it...

17. depends if it is our taxes paying for it or the individual
and since i can guess this man cannot afford forever care of this child, i am going ot guess the state is paying. i fhte state is paying then tough shit, cause our tax money shouldnt go to saving lives. lives are only saved when it costs us nothing

i say the right will say,..... pull the plug
