had referred to religious conservatives as "fundies.......professor beaten
University of Kansas religious studies professor Paul Mirecki said the men referred to the class when they beat him on the head, shoulders and back with their fists, and possibly a metal object, the Lawrence Journal-World reported.

"I didn't know them," Mirecki said of his assailants, "but I'm sure they knew me."

Messages left by the Associated Press on Mirecki's cell phone were not immediately returned.

Sheriff's Lt. Kari Wempe said Mirecki reported the attack just before 7 a.m.

The professor said he confronted the men after they were tailgating his vehicle along a road south of Lawrence. "I'm mostly shaken up, and I got some bruises and sore spots," he said.

6. They forgot 1 John 3:15
"Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him."

Kind of funny how they take to heart all the wrathful OT myth, but forget that the whole of the law and the prophets hangs upon the command to love your neighbor as yourself.

5. Pathtetic that people would be so insecure in their beliefs that they
have to try to beat people into believing what they do.

7. No, Not beating people until they believe what you do....
Beating them until they shut up for good and don't EVER think of opening their mouths again....

OR,

Until they are dead.

It produces the same result either way.

Looks like we're gonna have Bloody Kansas, 21st Century version....

8. Exactly
A friend's father who was a county school superintendent in Jerry Falwell country tried to end the longstanding practice of sending public school children for bible study once a week, thinking it a huge church-state issue and a waste of learning time. For his troubles, he and his family received death threats and he was attacked in a parking lot by a local minister. (Which apparently was kinda funny, the guy threw a punch thinking that anyone with a Ph.D. would be a weakling. He didn't know that my friend's dad put himself through school working summers in a coal mine and spent his weekends hiking the Blue Ridge. Her dad laid him out cold.)

9. This is the face of our 2nd civil war
It's not Blue states - Red states. It's neighbor against neighbor.

How much of a call from Hannity and Limbaugh would it take before there were armed gangs of thugs on the streets to rid our country of "liberal thought"?
