Larry was diagnosed with cancer before Katrina. His condition was rapidly deteriorating and he was losing weight. He passed in early October after being rescued during Katrina and evacuated to a hospital out of town. We never got to say "Bye" so today several neighbors gathered to drink tall Red Dog beers in his honor. We huddled on the porch of his home overlooking our flood ravaged neighborhood and talked. That's what he would have wanted. Larry was a great neighbor with a heart of gold and a wonderful smile and he loved to talk. I'd give anything for one more porch-to-porch conversation!
It sounds like your life was successful. Nothing could be better than to have enough friends who care enough to get together and hoist a few beers in your honor. We should all be so lucky.
