Short on Guests, DeLay Fundraiser Lets In Protestors

From Think Progress:

Short On Guests, DeLay Fundraiser Lets In Protestors

Cheney yesterday skipped the White House Christmas party to headline a fundraiser for Rep. Tom DeLay (R-TX). Top ticket prices were $4,200, where donors could attend a VIP reception, take photographs with Cheney, and receive recognition. For $2,100, attendees could rub elbows and take photos with DeLay. Regular tickets (the lowest cost for admission) were $500.

DeLay (with an approval rating at 37% and a money laundering charge still standing) and Cheney (at 19%) weren’t enough of a draw to attract high-dollar donors.

While 250 people allegedly attended the event, evidently not everyone had to pay full ticket price. Protestor Diane Wilson of Code Pink said she paid only $50:

I guess they needed people inside. You can get in pretty cheap. I didn’t want to give too much.

When DeLay is relying on feminist, anti-war protestors to fill his campaign coffers, you know his days are numbered.

3. Almost as many protestors as guests:
http://buildpeace.blogspot.com/2005/12/pink-protest-inside-cheneydelay_06.html

Diane Wilson - co-founder of CODEPINK Women for Peace - protested inside a fundraiser for Tom Delay at which Cheney appeared. Here's what Katie Helms reports on Houston Indy Media:

Katie Heim reports from inside the Westin Oaks Hotel: This evening, as Republicans gathered in the Galleria to raise money for the GOP Diane WIlson, cofounder of Code Pink and author of An Unreasonable Woman infiltrated their ranks. Photos of the banner and arrest. Wilson, who has done work around issues such as the Bhopal distaster and against the Iraq war, got on Delay's RSVP list by donating $50 to his campaign. After speeches by the chairman of the Republican Party and a rousing rendition of "God Bless the USA" Tom Delay himself took the stage. Delay referenced the protesters outside, citing the Socialists and the Progressive Workers parties. Then Cheney himself took the stage. WIlson was about 15 to 20 feet away from the VP when she opened up her black velvet wrap to reveal a banner which read "Corporate Greed Kills-From Bhopal to Bagdad". Conservative moralists nearby grabbed WIlson as she chanted "Corporate Greed Kills, and Iraq kills too!" One GOP member called Wilson a bitch and a whore. Police dragged Wilson out and she's still detained as of this report.

5. Oh that was definitely worth $50
Nice of them to arrest her. Whatever happened to free speech? She got in legitimately.

6. Nice: "One GOP member called Wilson a bitch and a whore"
Republicans are such nice people who really value freedom of speech. :sarcasm:

4. I'd love to...
write the pricks a check to get in, get arrested or what have you, then put a stop payment on the check first thing upon my release.

But I'm evil that way.

Way to go, Diane!

7. How can I get stupid people to protest me?

Heck, I will hold a fund-raiser any day and invite enemies only if they are stupid enough to give me $50 a piece to protest me.

I always thought Delay was dumb as rocks, but you have to hand it to a guy who can get people to PAY to protest him.
