VIDEO- Jon Stewart DESTROYS Bushie position re planted Iraq news on TDS
Edited on Tue Dec-06-05 06:52 PM by Nothing Without Hope
and bought-and-paid for "news" in general. Don't miss the "translations" of McClellan's repeated phrases about "getting the facts" and the presumed fate of the Pentagon spokesman who suggests that propaganda might be a bad idea.

Thanks to Crooks & Liars for this clip, and thanks to Jon Stewart and the people behind his show for telling the truth. Here's the C&L blog entry with the Windows and Quicktime links:

1. Saw it last night
painful to acknowledge how horrid this administration is....bordering on flatout facism. Fake "news". Lies repeated until the sleepwalkers think it's truth. Journalism muzzled.
And McClellan repeatedly saying..about so many things.."we want to wait until we have the facts. Or. 'We're investigating."
And we never hear back. Never.
This administration takes it no farther. And hopes everyone forgets.
Fortunately, Stewart and a few others keep reminding us.

2. That was great!
The bush administration has taken the bizarre and turned it into the commonplace.

8. Glad you got to see it. Maybe it will be kicked a bit more before it
disappears. I do wish more people knew about it, it's both hard-hitting and delightful, in JS's trademark best style.

17. *'s freedom does not include freedom from propaganda
Rather he continues a long held tradition of 'managing' democracy by means of propaganda, aka PR.

Walter Lippmann, "Public Opinion" (ca 1921):
"the manufacture of consent ... a revolution in the practice of democracy"...
a technique of control "usefull and necesary, because the general interests elude the public"..
this has to be the domain of "a specialized class"..

Edward Bernays:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Bernays
"Bernays also pioneered the PR industry's use of psychology and other social sciences to design its public persuasion campaigns. "If we understand the mechanism and motives of the group mind, it is now possible to control and regiment the masses according to our will without their knowing it," Bernays argued. He called this scientific technique of opinion molding the "engineering of consent."

One of Bernays's favorite techniques for manipulating public opinion was the indirect use of "third party authorities" to plead for his clients' causes. "If you can influence the leaders, either with or without their conscious cooperation, you automatically influence the group which they sway," he said. In order to promote sales of bacon, for example, he conducted a survey of physicians and reported their recommendation that people eat hearty breakfasts. He sent the results of the survey to 5,000 physicians, along with publicity touting bacon and eggs as a hearty breakfast."
