http://www.presstitutes.com/presstitutes/2005/12/democratic_disa_1.htmlWe've been tracking the latest incarnation of the media's favorite meme: Democrats=muddled and weak, Bush=resolute and strong. It's the iron-clad principle of Pre$$titution: 'Bush may be down, but Democrats are worse.'
So has the WaPo signed on to this new push? You be the judge...
Friday, December 2: Democratic Lawmakers Splinter on Iraq
Monday, December 5: Democrats Find Iraq Alternative Is Elusive
Wednesday, December 7: Democrats Fear Backlash at Polls for Antiwar Remarks
(for good Pre$$titutional measure, Wednesday's article is juxtaposed on the Post's homepage with this puff piece: "Cheney Urges Steadfast Approach to Iraq")
For those who argue that Democratic differences are newsworthy, we counter that Republican unanimity is more notable, if only for the fact that it's emblematic of a party operating without a conscience. As we wrote previously, "What the press conveniently overlooks in their zeal to take down Democrats is that there is nothing inherently wrong with members of a political party holding different views on a matter as serious as war. At least it shows that some soul-searching and thought has gone into the various positions, whereas the near lockstep hawkishness of Republicans betrays a crass political motivation for their stance on Iraq."
