Business Etiquette question: Is it OK to fax...
a "Thank You" letter following an interview. My wife interviewed in California for a Library position. Is this acceptable, or should she priority mail it? TIA

1. I would sent it Priority Mail.
It will get much more attention, and show she put some effort into sending it.

I view faxes similar to an email. You get the info, but you also know it took all of 10 seconds to do.

2. I don't know the rule on this
I would think it would be OK to fax, but she'd have a better chance that it wouldn't get thrown away if she mailed the letter.

3. The rule I've used in the past
The note should be handwritten (or at least hand-signed in a different color ink), and sent in a hand-addressed envelope via regular first-class mail or priority mail.

4. No need to "priority" mail it, but put it in a real envelope with a stamp.
Put it on good bond paper (same as the resume she presumably gave to the interviewer). Just like you dress nice and comb your hair and try to look your best, the "thank you" letter is another view of you that the interviewer sees. You want every view to look good.

Besides, if it takes 2 or 3 days to get there, that's a reminder 2 or 3 days later, after who knows how many other interviews have occurred. That's a nice time for the interviewer to get a reminder of how classy, respectful, and considerate your wife is, how much she is attentive to the details, and how good of a representative of the company she'll be.

Just my two cents.

5. The entire office could see the fax.
Which could start a shitstorm. No fax.

6. Mail it!
Trust me. Some companies get so many faxes your wife's thank you may get lost. Plus, a personal note mailed first class shows she put more effort into it.

7. Unless they hiring official is
in a huge rush, send by snail mail. Otherwise, your wife looks desperate, willing to throw money around and over the top. The tips on making sure the letter looks professional and sounds sincerely interested in the job and the people she met at the interview say it all.
