BREAKING: FITZGERALD PRESENTS EVIDENCE TO NEW GRAND JURY
Edited on Wed Dec-07-05 12:47 PM by Halliburton
http://www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/12/07/cialeak.ap/

<snip>
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Six weeks after White House aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby was indicted in the CIA leak case, special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald was back at work Wednesday before another grand jury in the drawn-out federal probe.

Fitzgerald, accompanied by several deputies seen carrying files as they walked into the grand jury area of the courthouse, made no comment to reporters about the nature of his visit.

In the last grand jury activity in the probe, a month ago, Libby, a top aide to Vice President Dick Cheney, was indicted on five counts of perjury, obstruction of justice and lying to the FBI. Libby has pleaded not guilty.

President Bush's top political adviser, deputy White House chief of staff Karl Rove, remains under investigation.

1. Here we go!
Evidently, there was so much evidence brought into the courtroom that it took several deputies to carry the boxes...

59. Fitz doesn't play that way
The indictments will come when he has presented his rock solid case. It's unlikely that they will come before "The Holidays" but who knows. Oh yeah, Fitz knows. The Grand Jury knows. We do not know.

At least Starr gave us regular and lurid press conferences. :sarcasm:

8. Washington Post Does It Again :(
From the end of the article:

"The Libby legal team cheered Woodward's testimony, calling it "a bombshell" and contending that it undercut Fitzgerald's case that Libby was the first official known to have talked about Plame and her CIA status with a reporter."

Uh, if the Washington Post did more responsible reporting, they should've added, of course the indictment against Libby has nothing to do with whether he was the first, that he's indicted on charges of perjury, which is pretty airtight, etc.--but of course, they do not, letting the talking points give the final judgement to the audience. A little indirect irresponsibility of our mainstream media.

It will do them no good.

People might be lulled in to false complacency, until the next press conference from Fitzgerald announcing more indictments. :)

Then proverbial egg will be on the Post's face. They are a mouthpiece for Woodword these days.

There was speculation it would help Scooter, but as Jeffrey Toobin noted, the prosecutor wouldn't bother putting her before the grand jury if she had exculpatory (? spelling) evidence.

68. Nice twist. I hadn't thought of Chalabi in this context. It's quite
likely he was in on the Rome crowd's schemes--Ladeen and Ghorbanifar and that lot (he had close ties to them)--and, if they were doing what I think they were doing (not just forging nuke documents, but procuring nukes to be planted in Iraq to be "found" by Judith Miller), then double (or is it triple?) agent Chalabi might have had a grudge against Valerie Plame (if she or her network were the ones who foiled it). And here we have the president good buds with the perps and outing the undercover cop. Tsk. Tsk. That is ba-a-a-ad.

Patrick Lang of the DIA spoke about the 'good work' Chalabi and Iranian intelligence did...if that's not treason I don't know what is. And Bush & Co. were sponsoring this guy. Hmmm.

If Fitz isn't investigating, maybe a Dem House in '06 will request some investigating. At a minimum.

38. no offense to Halliburton but
it is suggested to check the front page of GD before you post an article to see if someone already has. In this case there were already two posts with links to the exact story, and it certainly wasn't "breaking" because the article had been on CNN since 9:43 this morning, and there were already two threads going on it.

I wouldn't comment except for the fact when i read the "breaking" headline I also jumped up as if there was something new.

Edited on Wed Dec-07-05 05:49 PM by symbolman
I KNOW - I spent over a year researching the entire Plame Outing and created a 2 DVD set film called "Rove's War" that is the Definitive Chronology of PlameGate.. including the Downing Street Minutes Hearing I flew to DC to film in High Definition, the Waxman Hearing with ex CIA agents, Marcinkowski (he spoke in Detroit as well at the DSM House Parties), Johnson (who VOTED for Bush, but is sickened by all this), a dash of The Daily Show and funny graphics to liven it all up..

It's all there, if you want to see the 12 minute preview you can go to http://www.takebackthemedia.com and watch it - even wrote and performed a cover song for the credits called "Secret Agent Plame" based on the oldie but goodie "Secret Agent Man" with new lyrics - a few weeks ago I emailed the song to Randi Rhodes and she SANG it TWICE on her SHOW, I was on the floor laughing, it was so much fun..

SOmething to remember. BEFORE Ashcroft recused himself (since he was one of Rove's Customers), and took a lot of time doing it, Rove was interviewed BY THE FBI.. during that period Rove of course thought he was GOD, indestructible, arrogant, lying.. from what I understand from my research on this, Rove LIED TO THE FBI.. and of course these documents are STILL available to Fitzgerald, I believe that the FBI Investigation is what will in the end be used to Indict Rove..

Here are the "Secret Agent Plame" lyrics

SECRET AGENT PLAME

There's a gal who led a life of danger
Everyone she met she stayed a stranger
With every move she makes, another story breaks
Odds are her old pals won't see her tomorrow

Secret agent Plame, secret agent Plame,
Rove took away your number and gave away your name

Beware of yellow cake that you can't find, gal
The news'll drag your name right through a minefield
Not caring what they'd say
The White House gave you away
Odds are Bush's pals will get a medal,

Secret agent Plame, secret agent Plame
Rove took away your number and gave away your name

Spying on the Saudi Arabs one day
Being in the paper's headlines next day
Oh Karl let the wrong word slip
And Bob Novak had loose lips
Traitors in the White House can't be fired,

Secret agent Plame, secret agent Plame
Rove took away your number and gave away your name

**************

And a Merry FITZMAS & Treason's Greetings to One and ALL :)

63. I had a cold that day when I was singing,
and I was drunk, and my wife had left me and the dog had died and the barn burned down.. wait a minute, that would be a country song..

Nevermind.. :) -- I'm no singer, but at least I tried, and that's something I thought would be a lot more fun than canned music at the end for credits, I guess I pulled the voice down and used too much reverb because like most people I don't like hearing MY Own Voice :)

Appreciate that you like the FILM, because THAT is where all the hard work is - I wanted to make sure there was a solid chronology in film out there, it's a lot more vital and seems to stick more in the mind...

Thanks for your support!

...let me add this interesting little tidbit from Josh Marshall:

(December 07, 2005 -- 01:14 PM EST // link)

Was that a shoe falling? Susan Ralston is the woman who has managed to be at the center of both the Abramoff and the CIA leak investigations. She was Abramoff's executive assistant back in the day; then she took the same job with Karl Rove.

But maybe no more.

The Philippine News (Ralston is of Filipino descent) reports (link courtesy of The Plank) that she's moved on to the Commerce Department because she's been under "too much pressure" at the White House.
-- Josh Marshal

http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/007190.php

LOL...I bet that is a lot of pressure! I doubt Rove is much of a happy camper right about now.

Recommended!
