Any friends of Bill W. here at DU?
Edited on Wed Dec-07-05 03:50 PM by texpatriot2004
Do you visit the recovery forum? I have been at DU for over a year now and I haven't ever asked. I wasn't sure about having my two worlds collide. I've been stuck for awhile because of state of our nation. I am wondering if anyone else can relate? If anyone else is having similar difficulties? You know, anyone with experience, strength and hope to share from a DU perspective.

9. I do...
For me it's been a serious roller-coaster, but I'm still here. Still fighting, and smiling while I do so. Trying to anyways.

3. I have before - not regularly -
also, I tend to read more than I post so there's not always "evidence" that I've been in the recovery forum!
have a coffee on me - :donut:

26. Being a liberal and being sober...
are very important parts of my identity, so I should spend more time in the DU Recovery forum.

Recently I've needed more support as a liberal than I have as a recovering addict/alcoholic..lol.

15. i'm here, but i had no idea there was a recovery forum.
and frankly don't know why? i don't find discussing politics at my recovery sites conducive to their primary purpose so i really don't see the purpose of having a recovery forum here at DU. not that i'm opposed to it.

19. Well, I am grateful it's here. I resent not being able to talk politics
at meetings. I haven't ever tried to talk about it there mind you but I am stuck on this issue.

I see your point though.

33. Whoo! I'm grateful people don't talk politics at meetings.
And when they do I cringe, whether it's something
I agree or disagree with.
There's a reason for "no outside issues," you know.
But yeah, friend of Bill W. here, 19 years worth.
I keep politics & AA separate, even sponsoring people I
would NEVER talk politics with.

37. That's leaves me in a world of hurt...don't talk politics...it's like the
unspoken but well known don't talk rule in the dysfunctional family system.

Have you tried it? Has anybody stopped you or
thrown you out? Let me know how it goes. (smiley thing)

another. But, no, I've never visited the recovery forum, nor has Doug.

Good question. :)

24. Hi, tex.
Another friend here. I wasn't aware there was a recovery forum. I knew someone was trying to get one going, but I didn't know it went through.

I think I've also been stuck. Letting go of the resentment that keeps rearing it's ugly head is the toughest for me. So I try to remember "This, too, will pass."

I think I'll go visit the Recovery forum and see what they're talking about.

25. The forum has been there for awhile now. I am not sure this will
pass? Will it? Evil has taken over, a hostile takeover of our Government has occurred. I hear your words, they are familiar. I wish it would pass...now.

27. I pray it will pass.
I've been sober for 15+ years, and when bad times happen they usually do pass eventually.

At the same time, though, I fear the as yet unknown extent of the repercussions from the * regime.

I'm hoping 2006 will be the turning point with a Dem House installed. How's that for optimism? And I intend to do everything I can to make that happen!

34. Count me in
I also was unaware of this forum but will be checking back on a regular basis.
Just celebrated 3 years of one-day-at-a-time.
That philosophy and the Serenity Prayer and the program of AA have made all the difference in my world.
Hell, I don't even need to discuss politics at work or meeetings to get in trouble.
The Deomcraticunderground.com and Spearhead bumperstickers on my vehicle declare my bias.
BTW the Spearhead (Michael Franti) bs reads
"We can bomb the world to pieces.
But we can't bomb it into peace."

Stick around and see the miracle happen.
