Yes, Christmas is 12/25. Not August 1 to 12/31.

I'll wish Merry Christmas on Christmas day. Why can't the Christians be like the Jews and Muslims? When it is Ramadan it is Ramadan for those days and that's it. When it is Hanukkah it is Hanukkah and on the day after it is over.

Christians have moved Christmas to encompass 5 entire months. That's not right. People are sick of Christmas by the time it gets here.

I think we should have a movement...Celebrate Christmas on Christmas Day not Thanksgiving through December.

1. So right!
It is awful to see stores fully decked out by Halloween. By the time Christmas rolls around everything looks old and tired. Especially outside decorations subjected to the elements for so long.

And why do people want to wish me a Merry Christmas on December 1st? I don't get it.

2. Christmas Season = Shopping Season
It's not "day", it's "season."

That gives us all a whole lot more time to do what's really representative of the holiday: Shop.

3. Why that's just damned blasphemy.

I mean the story of the birth of Jesus is all about Black Sunday; legions of Christians fighting over the latest consumption fad, fat white men shooting down chimneys, and drunken slob husbands dribbling on about college sports.

"Look mom, Isn't that the latest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle? Can I have it mom? Can I? CAn I? Can I?"

"Yes son. You know why? 'Cause that's the story of Jesus. Christmas tis the season for giving. Well that's what the Hallmark card says anyway."

blatent :sarcasm: alert

Allah forbid Christians shoot down to church for atonement and leave it at that, then again that would be too Jewish. Better just stick with the wrapping paper and egg nog. Then wait for the next story of Jesus: filmed on site, filled with chocolate eggs and the bunny that laid them.

Me I just enjoy it as a time off to spend with friends and family. Thanks.

5. And the thing is
the pre-Christmas season is Advent, a time for reflection and atonement. Yeah, right. Let the whoopee begin, from Thanksgiving onwards!

7. Yep. As a church musician, I do not like to jump the gun
on the Christmas hoopla. Advent is a very rich season which deserves its own consideration. The time of quiet reflection makes the joy of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day more meaningful.

6. Actually, I don't think Christians did this. I think big business did this
It's big business and the goal for ever-more profits that have pushed Christmas to the five-month mark.

Christians basically keep the well-wishing to December. I know I never hear "Merry Christmas" until after Thanksgiving, anyway.

9. Agreed. Even if they just kept it to one week I'd be OK with it. But
this force-fed diet of decorations before Halloween, Xmas music piped in to the stores in November; it all gets real old real fast.

10. I don't think you can blame this one on the "Christians" - it's retailers
and marketing that have "moved" Christmas up in the calendar year.

14. Technically I think they went back...you know scientists and determined
Jesus was born in April I think.

They charted the stars and went back and determined that when the North star was in that position @ that brighness it was actually in April but not December.
